May I ask you how you make them? Usually if one of the kids get hurt I will put some ice in a ziplock and then wrap it in a dishtowel. The kids like this, LOL

I usually make them myself. my 13 year old is constantly inventing ways to get hurt. I also make the rice bags for heating pads. they work well. much cheaper that way.

Actually I do both I have about three ice packs that are store bought and I also make them. I like to use the gel ice packs they are less messy and when making one myself they sometimes become messy especially if a hole gets in bag or the zipper part comes loose. I also think that the store bought gel packs stay cooler longer. And if you fall asleep using it you have no worries of it opening and getting everywhere. Baggies are great for kids especially those who are always on the go and you never see your ice again but for me gel ice packs are best Well, that is my opinion anyhow.

I have done both my husband has a bad back and he needed a large flat icepack so he took a washcloth and a freezer bag and added alochol to the washcloth with a dab of water and freezes it works wonders.. We also use some empty containers from food to use for things like the the cooler and such.

I've been taught how to make my own basic ice pack. With having kids you need to keep them on hand as you never know. But usually in my house I have home made, store bought and frozen veggies to do the job.
