Not only is it because our mind starts to focus more and more on the music being force fed directly to the brain; its also because of issues like volume, repetition and what you are doing while listening to the music. Its possible to gain stress in the mind due to prolonged headphone usage, but remember that stress goes both ways, not just negative. It's also possible to get too into your music and develop a light form of mania. All and all, remember to take off the headphones every now and then and give your mind a little room to breathe and rest.

I've no idea if its true or not but I know that you can hurt your ears if you listen to music to loud with earphones. ..it does makes a distinction if you hear loud music via earphones or hi-fi!

I think it may be true. When we concentrate sharply at one point, it is liable to create stress in our mind.
