Things have been hectic for me lately. My pregnant sister went into pre-term labor at 25 weeks gestation. She was life flighted from the local hospital to a larger hospital where she was kept from having the baby untill she was 27 weeks. The baby girl was born weighing 2 pounds exactly. She is doing really well. She is breathing room air and she is already bottle feeding. Her parents have even been able to hold her. They have an 8 year old who was also born prematurely so they have had experience with the problems that may pop up. I will be sitting for the little one when her momma goes back to work as the daycare probably won't take her until she is bigger.

That's so good of you to stay with the baby. I'm glad the little one is doing well. I always say that someone needs to have babies since I won't.

I don't have any kids of my own but I raised my little sister and brother. I decided not to have any children even though I love kids.

Congradulations Auntie. I am glad everything is going well so far. I hope everything continues to go well. Having a premee sure can be a challenge, but a lot of kids start out at 2lbs. I guess your sister is a pro at it since her eight year old started old premee. Good luck babysitting.

thanks. Yes we have had practice. This baby is doing much better so far than her brother. She has started to gain weight. It just takes time. We are looking forward to her homecomming.

My friend had her baby at 25 weeks too. She stayed in the hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 4 1/2 months. They would not allow her to go to daycare for at least 1 year. After she was born she did quite well. The main problem she had was reflux. She ended up having surgery for that and now she does not have any problems from it. She is 3 years old now and you would not know she was born premature. She has developed well and functions like a normal child with no problems.

Thats great. My nephew was a 29 weeker and had reflux bad, but he eventually outgrew it. Thank goodness. It was so messy every feeding.

i'm glad things seem to be going good for the baby. my daughter was born at exactly 27 weeks and was 2 pounds 2 ounces. she is doing so well now and you'd never know she was a preemie. she's 4 now. anyway i hope the baby does well and gets to come home soon.

It's always good to hear when premies do so well. With all the advances in medicine more premies are making it without disabilities.
