My cat likes to sleep in the shower!

My cat does the funniest thing. She likes to sleep in the shower. Actually, it's a shower/tub combo. So, she ends up sleeping in the bottom of the tub. And, sometimes she just goes into the bathroom to hang out and lounge in the tub and doesn't fall asleep at all. I'm not sure why she'd do that. Maybe the tub is cooler than her room. But, I'm worried that she could pick up something from the tub that might make her sick. Sure I keep the tub cleaned, but the cleaners are not really pet friendly. Although I try to rinse the tub down well, I am sure that there's still some residual cleaner that could get picked up on her coat and go into her mouth once she cleans herself. So, I was wondering, what should one do about a cat that likes to hang out in the bathroom? Should I let her do it or lock the door to keep her out? And, as far as the tub cleaners go, are there any type of natural cleaners that I could use so that the cats don't get sick if they get into the residue? Would appreciate suggestions. Thanks!

A cat will sleep in the tub when it is flea season, it's how they avoid areas like carpeting etc that might house flea eggs. Also if it has fleas, being wet from being in the tub can be dangerous by igniting flea bite anemia, the water activates the scabs left by fleas and the cat can become seriously ill.If she doesnt have fleas, then all is good.

hahahaha...it's kinda cute..actually my dog does that too..he gets mad everytime i'm in the bathroom and i shut him out. i think it's because they're warm blooded PLUS the thick furr, sometimes it gets them cranky and they just feel that it's so hot they like to relax a bit in cold areas and surfaces. i forbid my dog though to ever hang out there again because cleaners could sometimes irritate his skin..he's starting to get one already and he doesn't like me treating it..

Hi I i don't know why cats do that.I also have cats and two of them also slept in the bathroom. It will not cause any problems and i think it's just normal.we always let our cats sleep in the bathroom if they want that.It will not harm them. Also we clean our bathroom with a steam machine so we don't have to use cleaners. You can try that. And it's even more effective.

Some of mine like to lay in the bathroom sink. It's cooler in there. I've never seen anything wrong with it. Yours should be fine, I would think. As long as she's not directly in the cleaner, she should be fine. Just make sure you it rinse really good after you clean it.

Our dog loves to sleep in the bathroom.. And we dont want it that way so what we do is we always keep the bathroom wet so our dog wont be able to lay on the floor. Maybe you should do the same thing to your tub.. Put some water to it so your cat wont stay in it.

Better close your bathroom to avoid contaminations from residues.

Our cats have never done this - I think they associate the bathtub with taking a bath. I did have one cat that liked to hop into the tub to watch the water go down the drain after we finished a shower. And I had another cat who would stare at us while we were on the toilet, which is a bit unnerving. Our cats have always liked the basement. Even when we lived in the upstairs of a house, our cat then would wander into the basement suite and sit there.

I can understand your concern....but I think that she should be ok if you rinse it down. My cats are always in the hand basin or the shower in the summertime, it is the coolest spot to be..

LOL...My dog sleeps in the bathtub too!!! Its much cooler in there for them. As long as your cats not licking the chemicals she should be fine. If she likes it in there then let her be in there. I wouldnt worry unless she starts acting funny. Usually if you rince with hot water all the residue is gone.

my cat also like to sleep in our bathroom.he really like water!we always have no problem take him into a bath, lolz.but i don't like it becoz it will make his hair gets wet and i can't hug him!so sometimes i lock the door from outside so he cant enter the bathroom,if i don't lock it he can easily push the door and sneak inside.

My cat does the same thing.I've never thought about it being bad for her.She hasn't gotten sick from it or anything so I guess it's ok.

I think your cat will be fine. It must like to sleep there because it is cool. Smart cat! I don't think that it would be a big worry about the residue unless you are cleaning it everyday.

My cat does the same thing I think it's because it's cooler there for him but he doesn't always go in the tub he sometimes lays on the floor in the bathroom or anywhere he gets comfy in the house...I turn the tap on if I really want him out of the tub but have noticed he still goes back there lol He also has a thing about laying in my bathroom sink..I don't think there should be a problem with the cleaners or anything as my moms dog used to sleep behind the toilet and she lived for years and dogs clean themselves sometimes too...

Let sleeping cats lay - Great photos on Flickr
I even keep the back of the toliet off so she can drink from the nice clean porclein toliet the water is so very cool in there. She likes to camp out in the bathroom in the bathroom sink sleeps for hours. Only one room in the house house air conditioning and if she can't get in, that is where she goes. I clean the bathroom because of my long hair, and her little hair barely show up compared to mine. And I would rather them accumulate in there than laying in the spare room, where my guest stay or on top of cloths. She prefers a nice rug too, but they are easly washed.

I don't really see the problem, but if you really want her to get out of the bathroom, just turn on the tap one time. I know it sounds a bit cruel but I think she won't come back in the shower after that. Except if your cat is like mine, mine always gets under the shower as soon as I turn it on

I've known cats and dogs to do things like this and my best guess is that it's a nice cool place to lie down in. The tub is a colder surface and on hot days it's probably pretty nice for them. I've had cats sleep in the sink too which is probably the same concept.
