Dont Have to Wear a Helmet..But Have to Wear a Seatbelt??

I dont understand why its ok for people on a motorcycle not to wear a helmet when in my car I have to wear my seatbelt. I think your safer in a car than on a motorcycle. At least in a car theres a shell around you that absorbs some of the impact of a wreck. A motorcycle your bound to end up on the road. It just dosent make sense to me. I dont feel I should have to wear a seatbelt in my car if they dont have to wear a helmet. What do you think about this??

I feel the same way that you do on this subject. I think it should be up to each indivedual if they want to buckle up in their own car or not. As you said we do have a roof over our head and doors and a frame and shell around us. But on a motercycle there is no protection, so why do they not have to wear a helmet?School bus's and public transportation also does not have to have seat belts so where is the justice there?

I just dont get it. My kids dont wear one on the bus but have to in a car?? ~ I have seen a few accidents, I was an EMT, and the people on the motorcycle always were hurt worse. One guy had road rash sooo bad over 80% of hius body and his leathers were in his skin! OUCH!! Granted people in car crashes get hurt or die but you have a much better chance in a car accident.

cooperkitten, with my comment I was talking to sunkissed.. never said that YOU never saw an accident.. I do see a lot of people dying in cars because they did not use the seat belts..... and I could show you pics you might say "these are fakes"....

I know here in California, motorcyclists HAVE to wear helmets. It's the law. And I think it's one that should be in effect everywhere, not just in a few select areas. I know how you feel hon. But think about this...if you aren't wearing your seatbelt and you get in a wreck where you are thrown out of the car, you are just as much in danger as the motorcyclists that aren't wearing their helmets. I think it should be mandatory for both helmets and seatbelts to be worn. It's that "safety first" thing....it should be important to everyone.

I know what you mean. You'd think that people would just "want" to protect their heads, and that it wouldn't have to be made into a law, simply because of good old logic. But I think some people don't even know what logical thinking is. LOL

I totaly agree. You should have to wear a seat belt or a helmet no matter what. It just seems like such a stupid law.

Wearing seatbelt while driving is a law, but wearing helmet while in a motorcycle is a law too. Its just happen that so many riders are hard headed by not following the law. Beside wearing helmet as riders are for their safety not for the safety of the law enforcers. So many people dont think about the importance of wearing helmets and seatbelts but it can save their life.

Some states require a helmet my state doesn't. I think it should be your choice. I would love to learn how to ride a motorcycle (one day). When I do I will wear a helmet because I don't want to take the risk. I think it should be up to the individual. I always 100% wear a seatbelt. My bf never wears a seatbelt. I'm tired of nagging him about it. If he gets killed because he didn't wear a seatbelt that's his dumb fault. I stopped telling him to wear one because if he doesn't care then I don't.

I wear a helmet when I ride one. I would also like to learn to drive one..I just worry about all the drivers out there that dont care about motorcycles on the road.

I agree with u. driving a motorcycle is far more dangerous than driving a car. In spite of repeated warnings from the traffic police, people always bear a deaf ear. Some says its uncomfortable to wear a helmet but I say it will be very uncomfortable in a wooden box 6 feet below the ground.

As far as I know of copper kitten, the lawn in all 50 states states that you must wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. If you have seen people riding motorcycles without a helmet on these people are clearly idiots, there is absolutely no other explanation other than lunacy. Yes you are safer in a vehicle then you are on a motorcycle, however many people feel that the rest is negligible in comparison to the money they save on gas and the time they think they're saving weaving through traffic which is usually what gets them hit.

I believe in the state of Wisconsin and among other if you are driving a motorcycle you must wear a helmet.. I do believe they made that a law not to long ago.. I always wear my seat belt when getting into a car rather it's my own or it's someone elses... But yet it's not always going to save your life either.. Like wearing a helmet isn't going to save your life either..

I'm in Pa too. It doesn't make sense to me either. I do wear my seatbelt and wouldn't think of not wearing it but it still seems unfair that they can go riding around with no protection at all. It might sound mean but all I can figure is that maybe the state thought we had too many people waiting on organ transplant lists so they made helmets voluntary to help with that...I mean you know that if your bare head smashes the pavement that's about all you'd be good for. As for the school bus issue that got brought up...it's really stupid here and in NY and whatever other states have the same requirements as us....If we have our own children in our own vehicle they must be buckled AND in a booster seat until age 8 but then we put them on school buses for several years BEFORE they are 8 without seatbelts or booster seats.

Ive thought the snae thing. "Organ donars dont wear helmets" should be there slogan! The Head Start bus does have seat belts on it but when they go to kindergarten they dont have one. It kinda scares me some. I think they should have to have seat belts in buses.

Hi there. Here in new zealand, the law requires all motor cyclist and all cyclist to wear helmets, not too mention the seatbelt as well... But to have a law that says "you dont have to wear a helmet, but have to wear a seat belt" does'nt make too much sense at all...

If that's the case that people are allowed not to wear helmet riding a motorcycle then it's wrong. That's very dangerous, as we say it here, when your riding on a motorcycle one of your feet is already on deathground. Our law here prohibits people for not wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle and not wearing a seatbelt driving your car. You'll be stop and given a violation ticket on your license. But some people just are stubborn and don't want to follow it.

Wow, 3 posts and my head already exploded. I think its the record. I just don't understand how they cant wear helmets, especially since I see them bobbing and weaving funny in traffic and on the freeway (potential accident). I must admit though, I keep seeing more car wrecks but not any cyclist scrapings.

In our country the law is very strick and people who rides a motorcycle have to wear a helmet or they have to pay a heavy fine. Its really not safe to ride a bike without helmet and i agree with you that its much safer on the car with seat belt. I see many people ride their motor cycle with their girls and the girls without wearing a helmet as the girls has some exceptions. Its really not safe to go on a ride without helmet, so wheather its a female or male everybody should wear their helmet. We should not take risk in this case.

In California where I am from before moving to Arkansas, we had a helmet law. So, am surprised to find there is no law here. It is extremely dangerous to ride motorcylces without one. Every person I have seen wears a helmet sunny waters

In my country, it is compulsory for a motorcyclist to wear a helmet when riding on the road, just as it is for motorists to wear seatbelts in vehicles. Motorcyclists are much more vulnerable than car drivers I would think. While a helmet may save a motorcyclist's life in an accident, the greater danger comes from him losing control of his motorcycle and falling off from it into the path of other vehicles.

Actually, I think wearing a helmet in a car would be a good idea, then so many wouldn't die from blunt force trauma to the head. As far as a motorcycle, my brother-in-law was killed due to a motorcycle wreck and he wasn't wearing a helmet. As far as seatbelts I wear one all the time. I value my life and those lives in my vehicle. If people don't want to wear them so be it..It is their loss not mine. People never think it is going to happen to them...

yes of course. when i get to ride on a motorcycle or a bike, i always wear helmet but i don't drive actually. i mean i just wear helmet just to be safe and be ready from the danger that i might meet. i also wear helmet at home, just for fun though. and as for seat belt, definitely yes, its one of the safety measure inside a car when driving or even riding. we need all of these things when we get to use a certain thing ideal for those things well you know what i mean.
