Do You Grow Your Nails?

I do, and I'm sad to say, that as a result of a few breaking earlier this week, tonight I cut them all off. My shortest nail was just over 1cm, and I have so much pride in my long nails - I don't like my hands much, and I thought they were a great asset. I completely forgot about the consequences: I CAN'T TYPE PROPERLY! =[ lol. I'm so used to using my nails to type, or just feeling them on the ends of my fingers. Now there's nothing. It feels very unusual, as it's been over 6 months since I last had them so short. Do you grow your nails? Do you bite your nails? Sympathise with me? =D

Sure I sympathise - don't you hear the harp? Mine grow quickly then break off one by one in a a couple of days if I don't cut them first. I don't let them get that long now, just past the skin because of the baby.

Did you take your teeth out before bed?

I think Robert would definitely prefer it that way. I missed my nails last night, I like to scratch when I can't bite =P

Yea I am a nail grower and have been pretty much since I was a teen...LOl and isnt it funny how so many things become so difficult when you have to cut them all off?! Blows my mind how frustrated I get cause the simpliest things seems like such a task when I all of a sudden dont have long nails LOL

I wasn't expecting a response! YAY. lol. Frustration is a very fitting word. It's just like you've lost a few centimetres of reach - you've lost a limb! Whenever I break a nail and get all sentimental, I'm always made fun of my my friends and family! They just don't understand =P

LOL. (or Snort.) =D I like it. Although I'm wondering: impotence to prevent, or incompetence? I'm picking up on all the [potential] err0rs like you'd expect a good girl to =D hehe.

Lack of strength or power; impotence. But yeah, I need a good editor.

Hi. My name is Roxana and I'm a nail grower...LOL.. I do grow my nails but I don't have too much luck at it... they break so easily..:( I tried all sort of treatments: nail hardener, creams, vitamins...but no great results. I last cut my nails in June and eversince that moment I couldn't make them grow back... I have to admit, I also have the bad habit of exfoliating them with my own two hands and I guess I am the main person to blame here... Right now I'm trying to make them grow back until 9th September when I'm gonna go to a wedding and I guess short nails don't really fit with an elegant dress, right? About typing...hmmm... I began to find it painful when nails reached a considerable length...after typing a little I felt them numb, lol...

Lol, don't say that again...you'd get me thinking! lol. I can't say I'm not upset about it but it has become something usual...usual but totally unpleasant.. Oh if men could hear us right now...I bet they would make fun of us for the rest of our lives... i bet my boyfriend would, lol.

=] *claps for Roxana* this is a break-through, she's admitted her problem! lol. And I confess, I too.... ...am a nail-grower! =D Omg, what a horror story. I would be so devastated if my nails just didn't grow back this time. I think I'd mourn =P

lol, well my boyfriend's next to me, but he grows his nails (they're longer than mine at the moment =[) as well, so I don't mind whining like a little girl =P My dad has long nails too, that's where I get them from =D

Hi, yes i also have long , painted nails. io think they add beauty to your hands and make your fingers look nice and longer too. Each person to their own choices and views though, as many people feel that long nails collect dirt and are a hindrance in doing other kinds of work, not right having them when we are cooking and the list is never ending as wll. But i feel that, if we do have nails, we do maintain and keep them doubly clean and are careful how and where we use them too. I for one, wash my hands much more often and am able to manage things with ease. Maybe i am used to having nails from an early age, so they dont bother me and somehow when they are cut, which i make sure i cut them short every 2-3 months, so that they start growing all over again, and a kind of recycling is done too. I dont keep that too long either, just manageable and alright. But i love my nails and i think there is no harm having good, well kept painted nails.

Thanks for the reply, and its just a matter of getting used to painting your naikls and you dont need anyone to do them for you, just try it out and am sure youd be able to do it good. It adds more colour to those long nails i think and we can keep changing them often too , to have a variety of colour as well.

I think we definitely adapt to having longer nails, yes. I for one always make sure to keep my nails clean and well-maintained, but I rarely paint them, as I don't have much skill in the area and don't have any friends to do it for me (and I'm not paying for it =P) When they are painted I do love the look, though.

I grow my nails. Maybe not as long as you but the length is still there. I have been told that I should be a hand model. I think I used to bit my nails when I was a kid and my mother gave it to me bad. I think she put something on my nails too. It's all a blurr. I hate when my nails brake really low so you are left with one stumpy finger or have to wait for the nail to grow so you can actuall clip it off!!! My sister had some really LONG and HARD nails that were ready to start curling. I had to clip them for her with spcial nail clips cause they were so hard. The skin under the nails started to grow so I had to be careful how low I clipped them or else they would bleed.

Tell me about it. My sis nails are a lot shorter now but I still have to be careful when I cut them. My problem fingers are my thumbs and middle fingers. They always break reallllly low. Piss me off when that happens. Got to trim down the rest of the nails on that hand so it doesn't look stupid. And then you can't have nails on one hand and none on the other. Oh The Joys!!!

OUCH! Just thinking of bleeding nail-skin makes me cringe! Your poor sister! The stumpy fingers are the worse. Someone will be admiring my nails, when all of a sudden they come across the one that ripped off the night before. You can see their expression drop - it's just not impressive =P

I grow my nails. In fact, they decide to do it without my permission. You can blame that on all the milk, cottage cheese, and cheese I grew up with. I got so much calcium that my toe nails are as hard as, shall I say it, nails? Yes, and I do bite my nails when I get frustrated, and when I catch my nail on something, and I have to even them out, and would you know it, where are the scissors when you need them? You have my deep sympathy. I know what you are going through, because when I do cut my nails, they are too short to do anything useful. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, they will grow again.

My fingernails - my long and lovely fingernails
Oh sweety I sure can sympathize with this one. I take a lot of pride in my fingernails too, as you can see by the picture they are quite long. Actually they were longer than this. This picture was taken about a month ago so add a little more onto these. Well 2 nights ago while opening the fridge door I got one caught and snapped it right off down to the skin. It was so depressing. I also found out that I could no longer type with one short nail so I ended up cutting them all down to about 1/4 inch. I hate having to start over but.. darn it.. stuff happens :(

Your nails are certainly something to be proud of - my sympathy goes out to you also. Sometimes it's nice to start over, I guess, and have all your nails grow together again =]

Hi there. Yes I do grow my nails to a certaint length, then when they get too long, I cut them, because they get in the way of alot of things, one of them is, playing the guitar, it can also get a little difficult to type as well...

Ahh, instruments. That's one of the main reasons for my love-hate relationship with my nails, as I used to play both the guitar and piano. I now cannot, as I like to have long nails on both my hands =[

i do not grow my nails. some guys keep one nail, long for whatever reason i do not know. woman is ok i guess, they know how to keep their nails or work around obstacles when having them. the reason i do not even try to keep nail is the reason that if you stub your nail, the nail will get torn up, sticks out, taking some finger meat with it. bleeding like crazy ....AWWWW!

Hi Malyck! When I was younger, I grow my nails and have it manicured and painted in different colors too but as i got older, I prefer to wear them short nowadays. It is more convenient for me because I do cook a lot and somehow I can typed on the keyboard smoothly. Take care and have a nice day!

Ha..Ha..Ha....I think you better find one audible keyboard software and hardware if you like to keep and grow your finger nails. And its available in the open market, but very expensive. OK come back to your three(3) question marks that you've passed up to me for answers. No, I never grow my nails and I get it cut for once in a week. No, I never bites my finger nails. Ha..ha..ha....for sure sympathy and empathy as its part of friendship's element. And this is why I gave out my idea special for you on my first paragraph; the audible keyboard hardware and software....a small help from me. The Little Me, Michael.

hi malyck..yes i do grow nails and i have two ways of saying that;..one is i grow them intentionally as i like them that way as i can try so many nail paint designs that look so cool on grown nails..and my hands start looking pretty too..LOL the other way is sometimes i don't care about growing them or not but they they just grow on their own when i don't cut them either because of laziness about picking the nail cutter or i am too busy with my studies that i don't get them noticed that are grown until find my self cut by them..lol well i don't bite my nails unless i am away from the cutter and some nail is not properly cut..then i take help of my teeth..lol..so i bite them for beautification purposes only..even i feel weird when i cut them or got them cut accidentally after a long period of living with full grown nails...i can feel what you had been feeling when you got them cut..so i fully sympathize with you..even i start missing their amazing feel when they used to be there..like when i eat i feel like i am not able to reach the bread or if i do so i may not get it into my mouth..really i had such experiences with me..LOL

Haha, I absolutely agree - you don't feel like you can reach something, or you just won't be able to do it without your nails. Holding a pen feels so odd at the moment, I feel like I don't have proper grip, because I can't feel my nails around it. I'm the same - as much as I love my nails, I don't plan to grow them, they just do it without my opposition =D

I started biting my nails when I was 6 yrs old... I don't know why! I continued to bite them until they bled... and up to the point where an accident caused me to have my leg cut off. After it was re-attached, the doctor put me on a diet of high protein, lots of calcium, and B-complex vitamins, so that my body could ABSORB the calcium I needed to be able to heal. A side effect of this was for me to suddenly have thicker, stronger hair, and VERY strong nails! I would do manicures often, just to pass the time while I recovered. I had always had long, fine hair, but I grew it long enough to sit on!! I still continue to take the supplements, and every day find out new benefits from them... I just wish they could prevent me from being a klutz and hurting myself!! Another trick I have is to drum them on the tabletop... its supposed to keep a good blood supply going to the nail matrix to make the nails stronger!!!

I had this habit of growing nails when in college. I used to nicely paint them and flaunt them. But after marriage, I lost the interest of growing nails. I dont have this strange habit of biting nails. some of my friends have this habit of biting nails. Dirty habit I believe.

I cut my fingernails every month, and I think growing nails is not a healthy habit. In my country, someone only grow their nails of little fingers (for cleaning the nose),it's disgusting...
