Do you beleive in children with ADD/ADHD? I guess I never did, i always thought it was lack of discipline. But now I am haing some major issues with my 4 year old son. Several people that I have talked to including my daycare provider that has been in business for 15 years thinks my son is showing signs od ADHD. I really dont know anything about this. Can anyone give me any info on it at all. What the symptoms are ect? Also if anyone has a child diagnosed with it could you please tell me what the best plan of action will be.

I think four is way too young to be concerned with ADD. How long has your son been with this daycare provider? Can he pay attention to anything at all for a half hour or more?

Four does seem pretty young. Last time I checked a lot of kids at that age are active.

I love it when an ignorant adult suggests beating children rather than medicating them for the very real conditions. I reckon I should beat my little girl rather than give her a pill? Love the logic some use. *rolling eyes* ADD is caused from a chemical imbalance in the brain. Beating the child because of this is not a solution in no way shape or form, it's abuse and stupid. My daughter is a well-behaved child, never have I ever posted anything different. However she simply can not pay attention to receive information. Thus her Concerta (ADD meds) allows her to do so. Now my child is able to function in her class and guess what you would never know she was on anything. She is not zoned out, as she is without her meds. She participates and raises her hands, not set there unable to answer because she has no clue what's going on, like she is without her meds. So please don't listen to the fools who have no experience with children and more so children that actually has ADD/ADHD. There doesn't need to be more abused kids in this world.

I believe in it. I also believe in adults with it. Both me and my sister never diagonosed as kids but had it back then... me with the quiet version, her with the other loud one. I was the daydreamer, she was the loud one. Neither of us knew. It only makes it worse finding this out as an adult and better too cause I was just being me and the whole thing wasnt just like me being a day dreamer and lazy. I'd take your son to the doctor. I do believe in this disease and its a sad thing. Sure some kids might just be too hyper and some dont believe ADD exist but I believe it so. Good luck!

Hey, ADHD or ADD exists, but at the same time is something that is overly diagnosed in today's world. I would highly recommend you take your child to either a Psychiatrist or an Psychologist. They would probably be more informed about this then maybe your child's pediatrician. There is also a chance that is might be something else. A lot of the signs are also symptoms of other disorders.

This is very real so better believe or better accept it so that your son can have the best help he could get. You know, I have a son with Autism. At first I couldn't believe it since he is my eldest. But when I became more sensitive, there I see the things that I thought is just a normal attitude of a growing child but it's not. So, my eyes were opened to the possibility and subjected him for a diagnosis. Since then, we enrolled him for a therapy session and it helped a lot. Now, he is enrolled in a pre-school with children we call normal in a normal set-up. So please, believe and do some researched so that your son can benifit from this and can be given the best treatment also his needs is identified. Take care.

one thing ADD and ADHD are very real. If you have any concerns about this please take your son to the Dr. share with him or her what your daycare provider says about how he is during his time there. There are simple test to find out again your Dr can help. There are also many meds that can help. I personally don't like the idea of meds but some kids do need them. A lot of the times kids are said to have add or adhd because they are hyper or just got a lot of energy. Go to the Dr this is the first step. gl to you and your son.

There are always many sides to this debate. I do believe that some people have chemical imbalances that cause ADD/ADHD. I also believe that some kids are just undisciplined and unruly. Then there are the parents and/or children that use ADD/ADHS as an excuse for bad behavior. There are also doctors that are quick to medicate just to make the parents/teachers happy. I have seen instances of all kinds, but yes, it's real. If you think your child may have symptoms, see your doctor right away. When my youngest was about 8 or so his father decided that he had ADD and wanted to medicate him. My son liked to talk in school - he was and still is VERY social. I asked the doctor - who had been his doctor since birth - and he said "No, he just need to learn to not talk in class." I couldn't see how a kid that young could have ADD if he could sit down by himself, unsupervised every day for a week after school and crochet miniature Christmas stockings for everone in his class. He's now in the Navy and other than being VERY social and liking to have friends around, he's just fine. But definitely have you child checked out, it's not a laughing matter if it needs to be treated.

I've had to deal with several children who I believe had ADHD in my choir. I had to find creative ways to keep them from being disruptive (special songs, etc.). I suggested to their parents that they have them evaluated by the medical profession. I do have friends who had to deal with the problem first hand and they said they tried everything before submitting their child to medications. I found what I thought was a good reference on the internet, www.concerta.net. It gives symptoms, free kit infomation. I hope this helps. Be blessed!
