It Nags Me - Local News Rant

I am appalled by local news reporters at how local news reporters can take a story, twist the words or delete relevant information in order to increase their ratings. How many people have been harmed by this? My guess is many. How do people live in communities after they are found innocent? Do the local news stations apologize for their statements. Doubtful.

It's bad isn't it? We in America try the criminals or perps before they get their day in court, which really isn't fair. The news sensationalizes everything...what is up with that?

How is one expected to get a fair trial when the public has already drawn their own opinions?

This problem exists not only in local news reporting, Elusive, but in all news reporting. That is the reason I wish people would not be so quick to rush to judgment whenever they hear something reported. I am often reminded of that old saying: Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. People do have a way of twisting the truth to make it come out all wrong. People usually don't grasp this concept until they find themselves in a wronged position. Any smart person knows that news reporting is all about sensationalism-and there is hardly ever an apology offered.

The news reporters are not concerned about the people they hurt. As long as it gets readers, that is all that matters. It is very seldom that you ever see any apologies.

I know that feeling. Be it the news or on websites like MyLot, where there are ratings, there will be greedy people willing to stretch the truth in order to impress the masses. It really really bothers me when this happens, and I wish it would all stop.

I have seen where even if a paper reports something and has to make a retraction it is printed real tiny in the back of the paper where you never notice it. Years ago a friend of mine became pregnant at 15. She didn't want anyone to know that a relative was the babies father so she lied and told the police that it was a prominent boy from school. News got out and ppl were all over him to step up and take responsibility. Alot of ppl were upset that they felt he had taken advantage of a young girl (he was 2-3 years older then her). It took a couple months to do the DNA testing and his family proved he wasn't the father but they ended up moving away b/c some ppl wouldn't let it go. The papers made a big deal out of it and would bring it up again everytime him or his family was in the paper. Have a good day!! AT PEACE WITHIN

The newspapers don't give a flying fig about the fact that they are ruining the lives of people.
