Have you ever known someone on TV?

I've known a few. Last summer there was a reality series called "Rockstar: Supernova". One of the contestants, Phil Richie, was not only from my state but someone that I actually knew personally. He was in a local band and I used to work for a local band radio show so I knew him pretty well. It was neat to be able to watch a show and actually cheer on and vote for someone that I actually knew. Unfortunately he was eliminated from the competition and did not win. Actually the worst person ever ended up winning. Also one of the teachers in my high school was a contestant on Jeopardy once. She actually won too! But she was not one of the teachers I ever had, so it was cool, but I didn't really know her well or anything. A local car salesman who makes these really cheesey commercials was good friends with the radio station I used to work for. A few of the sales people starred in one of his commercials once... not to mention he made a commercial for the morning show of that radio station. And lastly, since I used to work at a radio station that was located in the same building as the local news station, I'd pass news folks in the hall all the time. It was funny to see someone you didn't know, but did know because you saw them on tv all the time! The radio folks have been in various tv commercials and events as well. I was at one of the events promoted on tv, but I've never actually really been ON tv, just in the background. Have you ever known anyone on TV? Being interviewed on the news? Been on a game show or reality tv show? In a commercial? Have you been on TV yourself?

hmm.. let's see, have i ever know anyone on TV? I don't think I have, but there is this girl, that used to live here, that I knew about, but didn't really know her, and she became Miss Srilanka last year. Myself, I've never really been on TV, but I have been on a game show on TV several times, I was a caller on a local show "call in, call out" and each time I won like 300$, that was great. By the way, I loved that show "rockstar:supernova", I did like Lucas Rossi who ended up winning, but my personal favorite was Toby Rand. I don't really remember Phil, but I do remember that everyone who was on that show was so good and they were all way better than any of the contestants on the more popular American Idol. Personally, I would prefer Rockstar over American Idol any day.

That's awesome! That'd be interesting to know someone who won a "Miss _ " pageant. Especially if you had dirt on them :p That's also cool that you won some money on a call in. I never win anything! I've tried, but I always seem to fail :( Lucas was Horrible. I'd actually pegged him for the winner before the show started. Because of Phil we'd gotten all this info at the station about the show and I saw a photo of all of the contestants. The moment I saw Lucas I was like "he'll be the winner" because looks wise he just fit. I thought his voice was horrible though. And as much as I love Tommy Lee, I refuse to ever listen to Supernova because I think they made a crap Decision. Actually I would have liked Toby to have won! He was my personal favorite too. I think vocally he fit a lot better with the band than Lucas did. Phil was actually eliminated kind of early in the show (which is probably why you don't remember him) but all the girls thought he was cute and there was a big controversy behind why he was eliminated. He'd been interviewed in a local paper and they quoted him kind of bashing Supernova's music...so the band cut him. Tommy was the only one who really likd him and Tommy actually kept in touch with PHil. I don't know if they still talk though cause i haven't seen phil in a while. anyway, this was Phil http://www.cbs.com/primetime/rock_star2/ maybe that will refresh your memory?

Well, I didn't really know her, I just knew of her, and had seen her around at parties or the mall. Hey raychill, do you realize this is the first time we actually agreed on something, Toby was both our favorite. Yeah, I totally agree that Lucas seemed to "fit" with the whole look of the group, but Toby had the vocals, and he was so good looking too. Now I remember Phil, I didn't before, because I had actually missed a few of the first shows, but now I remember him. He was quite good too. Well, at least he still has his own band. That's great!

Yeah, I mean I knew of people on tv too. it's still kind of neat to be like "hey i used to go to the same mall as Miss Srilanka!" ha ha. Ha ha, that is true. It was bound to happen that'd we'd agree! Apparently Toby moved to the U.S with his band to make an album. After that show ended I kind of forgot about everyone. I wonder how Toby's band is doing? I mean, unfortunately for them, Supernova really didn't do so well. I mean, I've never heard them on the radio or anything and I worked at a Rock Radio station! Phil's band is a pretty great band and very popular with the locals. Sometimes that's just as important!

I didn't know you rubbed elbows with celebrities!:P That's pretty cool that you have known people to be on tv. The only people I've ever known on tv were big on cable access. Oi. I have a cousin that goes to church with a guy that does incredibly annoying car commercials. I was in video production in high school for a semester, but I was always to shy to do the morning announcements. We used to do all these really cheesy skits and one was accidentally broadcast and I was humiliated because my friend and I had made a music video about Y2K to the tune of the Monkees theme song. It was really terrible. She busted out a verse like Aretha Franklin too. Soul Sista.:P

Ha ha. I used that phrase in a comment to someone else! Yeah, man I know ALL the rich and famous! Only not really. Ha ha. Oh no someone met Mark Summers and didn't bring you to introduce!? That's crazy. Ha ha Cable access still counts. I knew someone in a subway commercial too. Man I know alll the celebs! What sucked about Phil, he was on Rockstar: Supernova and got to meet Tommy Lee! I Love Tommy Lee and I was so sad he didn't win cause he could have introduced me to Tommy Lee! That's cute about your music video! ha ha. Awesome. Do you have the only lasting copy of that video so no one can ever hold it above you? because I always worry about embarassing videos of myself!

He has also been in a couple of canadian made tv shows and a guest actor on the x-files! He is a good young man and still stays in touch with our family! Take care Raychill.

My sister dated one of the local news guys back home for a while. Another one brought his boys to me for haircuts. So I got to know both of them pretty well. I also cut Jamie McMurray's (the Nascar driver)hair once. I was really nervous about cutting it, and I hardly talked to him at all, but he was super nice. It was back when he was a rookie and he thought it was funny that I was so nervous. :) I also dated a guy who worked for the governor of my home state a few years ago. He was in a couple of the commercials. lol Of course they never showed anywhere else...But no one else would know my news guys either. Oh! One of my friends in like sixth grade had a little sister that was in a McDonald's commercial. I remember her family inviting a bunch of us over the first time it aired. lol

No, not that I am aware of. Though it could be possible that I have gone to school with someone that is famous now. I haven't kept in contact with most of my classmates and old friends so who knows? :P LOL Wait, now that I think about it, my uncle was on TV once. He and his wife were on Rescue 911 (I believe that's the show he was on...it was some years ago, after all). I had been visiting one of my other family members and while he was there he mentioned that he had been on the show and had the tape with him so all of us watched it together. That's about as close as I'll ever get to knowing a famous person. So does it count? LOL

Ha ha. I think if you think about it a lot of people have known someone on tv! I came up with a subway commercial that I knew someone was on! My brothers wife's brother knew Timothy Mcvey. They were friends in high school. So she knew him when he was on tv. Nice person to know right? Ha! Ohhh I remember Rescue 911. I don't know if I'd have been proud to be on that show though, i mean good they survived! That totally counts!

Wow, Timothy Mcvey? Really? Yeah, Rescue 911 was not the type of show I usually watched. I don't exactly remember what my uncle and his wife were on the show for, except that she was pregnant and almost lost the baby. Gee, that must have been 16 years ago. (Boy do I feel old! LOL)

Yeah. Timothy McVey! I used to watch Rescue 911. It was all about crazy accidents that had happened. One I always remember vividly was a guy who got stuck on a kids roller coaster and went around on the coaster while his leg got cut off :\ But it was always that the people survived. so that's a plus!

My aunt was a model and an actress. She lived with us throughout my growing up and was more like a big sister than an aunt to me. It was not unusual for different actors to stop by our house on the holidays. She never made it big herself but she did have the opportunity to meet and get to know personally some well known people. One that I remember most is the butler off the jeffersons as he was well known by many. Others were just bit parts in soap operas and a couple of writers. Celebrity people are just people. I met metalica ...they came in to where i was working and got chatting with them and forgot to get an autograph.

that's cool! I know celebrities aren't special...they're just people. I wasn't asking anyone if they knew any celebrities, I was asking if anyone KNEW someone on tv. Like knew someone who lived next door to them on a game show or knew someone who went their school on the news. Etc. I've met many a "celebrity" in my time and I know they're just people.

Hello raychill!(",) Wow, so many cool stories out here, too bad I have nothing to brag about. I did enjoy the responses of other mylot members. I have no personal connection with anyone in the entertainment industry. I just would like to share that I had been on tv once for a local news in our place when I was in high school. The reported did an interview with the students on what we are going to take up in college. It was only for a few minutes but when it was shown, i was not able to watch it but my parents do ( a little embarassing). Great day!(",)

Hey, thanks for paying attention to my response from this discussion. Too bad we didn't have it on tape. But it's okay because I was able to achieve my dream. I'm now a nurse and working in one of the state university in our place. Yesterday, we were on the mall and I noticed a tv wherein the one who will pass by will be captured. And I noticed that I look big in tv, I guess I need to lose weight for me to look good when I pass by the next time.lolz... Great day!(",)

I was on Maury Povich back in 2001. Yes I was one of the mothers proving to the child's father that the child was his. It was actually a funny situation looking back on it. The father had been listening to "he said, she said" stories from a person that I thought was a friend, and didn't believe that the baby was his. I, unlike a lot of the females that go on there, knew that the baby was his because I hadn't been with anyone else. He kept making random comments about that not being his son, and finally I got fed up. I told him "If you say that one more time, I'm gonna call Maury on you." He replied "Go ahead, call him, I don't care!" So that is just what I did. I ran down the story to them, and they, in turn, called him to get his side of things. After talking to them, he came back to me, saying "I didn't know you was gonna call them for real!" Don't play with me, I will leave you holding the bag. Anyways, they took us to a DNA testing center in our area (Do not let them make you believe that they do all the testing there, they don't!) and a week later we went to New York. They came and got us from the house, took us to the airport, and they paid for everything, hotel and all. They even gave us spending money, which I saved by only eating at McDonalds lol. The day after we got up there was the show. I was kinda nervous, but not really, because I am used to showing out. The other girls there were anxious to get started, as was I. They did my hair and makeup, and gave me a cool outfit to wear. I am so mad that I couldn't keep the leather pants!!! The producers kept peeping in on us to make sure we were well accomodated, but we were getting anxious. Finally, I asked one of the producers who would be going on first. She said "Well, it doesn't really matter who goes first because we tape the show in clips, and you might not even get aired the same day, but Kenya (thats me) you're going first." and she took me out to the stage. I felt so important!!!When you get out on Maury's stage, you realize that its not as big as it looks on TV. Maury is a kind person, and a very good listener. He asked me a few key questions, and listened very close to my answer. He finally called the father out, and we both clowned. He wanted to say that I was a "Ho", but I quickly busted him out of that one when I said that I didn't even get with him until after I had known him for 4 1/2 years. We were doing a two part show, so after we talked for a while, we went into the back and changed clothes (Again, don't let tv fool you. They say its 24hrs later, but its more like 20mins!) After coming back out, we rehashed what was said the "day before" and Maury brought out the results. A quick fear passed through me before he read them, but I don't know why, I know who I had been with. Of course, he was found to be the father of my son. I jumped on him and said a couple of catch phrases to let the world know that he was salty. I think we were one of the favorite shows, because they kept airing that same show for about 2 months once it came on TV (If you watch Maury, its the story about Kenya and Marcus) I had a lot of fun.

Hey!!! I thought my outfit was cute!!! But this was on back in 2001 so I doubt very seriously that they would replay that show anytime soon. I don't have a tape anymore, else I would send you a copy. Unfortunately this wasn't a joke though, he really thought that my child wasn't his and I called them to prove a point. And I was on one of the shows with one of the women that had come on several times and not found the baby's dad for none of her kids. I am with you on that, I could never go on TV that many times looking for my baby daddy. That's broadcasting to the entire world that she was a ho. But I shared a hotel with one of the supposed baby daddy's and his girlfriend. She was all heated up saying that if he was the father, she was gonna break up with him. All the while I'm thinking, "You know he slept with her, what difference does it really make if he's the father or not?" But, as you know, he wasn't so they stayed together. I wonder if they are together now...

Ahahaha. That's Great! First, I'd like to say... I know all about TV magic, I was a broadcasting major at one point in time. But it's always funny to hear. Especially when you don't realize it. I always kind of figured that was how they did the show and two days wasn't really two days at all! I also knew they did testing and that sort of stuff at your own home. But funny! I did not know they gave you guys outfits to wear. I always figured people always just dressed that bad (kidding!) Second, I'm glad to hear that even though you went on the show for "who is my baby's daddy" type shows, that you did it sort of as a joke AND that he really WAS the show. I've seen the women who go on there and they've got like 5 guys to prove one of them is the daddy and turns out none of them are. Isn't there one women who brought in over 10 men at some point? and none of them was ever the father. It's always so sad to me and I'd never want to broadcast that on television! It's also interesting to hear your backstory because I always wondered what posessed people to want to do those type of shows! And..hey least it was Maury and NOT Jerry Springer!

Yes I know the last contestant that won survivor(FIJI)' Earl Cole. He is a cousin of mine. Won the million dollars. When he came back to Kansas City he hosted a big block party @ the race track for the entire city of Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri. It is strange to really know someone one a reality show and actually come out the winner.
