The Big Mac turns 40 years old... 40 years of yummy or big tummies?

The Big Mac, McDonald's anchor menu item is 40 years old today. It's hard to resist the temptation of two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. But as fast food like McD's becomes a normal part of people's diets, more and more people blame it for the obesity epidemic sweeping the nation. Do you think that the Big Mac has contributed to the big tummies of Americans or do you think that the news media is always looking for a scapegoat and the Big Mac is just a convenient excuse?

No I don't think the Big Mac is to blame for making the world fat. Well an exception might be if one ate maccas 3 times a day. McDonald's is now a world icon and they are trying to have more healthy meals with less calories. Plus they do heaps for kids with cancer and other charitable stuff. This has to outweigh any negative effects eating tons of big macs might do. Also to add weight to my argument, there are many thin people eating at McDonalds. And why only McDonalds, what about the chicken with all those secret herbs and flavors? Up with Maccas and down with the wowsers i say. Glen

So you're saying three times a day is too much? The real secret to McDonalds is sugar. They put sugar in everything. Try just once, with a clean palate and taste the hamburger bun. It's sweet. McDonalds is more likely responsible for thousands of cases of type 2 diabetes from worn-out pancreases.

29 years ago I was pregnant with my son...what did I crave? Snickers candy bars and Big Mac's. I ate so many that I have not had a Big Mac since and maybe one snickers two at the most in all those years...but Happy Birthday Big Mac anyway!

When I was pregnant with my son, I ate one Big Mac that stayed with me and caused me heartburn for hours and hours. After that, I couldn't eat any fast food for the whole time, I lost weight while I was pregnant just from cutting out the fast foods. It took years before I could eat another one, but I must admit, now that I can eat them again, they are yummy.
