Saturday Morning Cartoons

Do you watch Saturday Morning cartoons with your children? Do you watch them without your children? I enjoying watching some of the cartoons that my children watch. But there are other shows I would not waste my time with. Cartoons today are not anything like what we had when I was a child (many moons ago). We had the Flintstones, Bullwinkle and Rockie, Superman, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. We also had Popeye, Olive Oyl and Brutus. Don't forget the Smurfs. They were so cute. Our cartoons were the classics. I don't understand Power Rangers and Transformers. They make a lot of repetitve noises and are constantly fighting? What is their point? What moral lesson are they trying to teach if any? What cartoons do you remember from childhood? What cartoons do you miss?? What were your favorite cartoons??

I used to watch cartoons with my children sometimes, back when they were worth watching. I agree that the cartoons just aren't the same anymore, and I don't think that most of them are worth watching for me or for my kids.

Do you remember Winnie the Pooh and the 100-arce Woods?? I used to enjoy that one a little. I used to watch more when the children were little. Now it does not seem to as many good cartoons on regular tv. All the good ones are on satelite or cable, I think.

Winnie the Pooh was one of my favorites. I enjoyed watching it and the Disney cartoons the most.

My children are much too old to be watching cartoons with, rather I watch cartoons with my grandchildren. I completely agree! You certainly can't be the classics, as they were wholesome entertainment. In fact, I went out and bought many of the classic cartoons on DVD (seasons), so that my grandchildren could enjoy the same cartoons that I did when I was growing up.

I have done that also. I buy the old classics on dvd for my grandchildren and give them for gifts. I like the clarity of the graphics also.

It's been a long time since I've watched cartoons. I did watch them with my kids when they were small, but even then I didn't think they were that good. I used to watch Bugs Bunny and the Roadrunner, the Flintstones, and the Jetsons. There were some other cartoons, they might have been called Merry Melodies that had all sorts of characters and stories. It used to be worth getting up early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons.

The Jetsons were so cool. They always had the lastest, greatest gadgets. But they also showed what would happen if the circuits were connected wrong. Push a button for the tv and the dishwasher went haywire. Push a button for the oven and the garage door opened. That was so informative. Simple but informative.

I didn't think they still had Saturday morning cartoons. No, my kids don't watch them. For the past several years our Saturday mornings have been spent at the softball and baseball fields. No time for Saturday morning cartoons. I think it's a reflection of how different things are these days for most people. The hectic schedules and such. No leisurely Saturday and Sunday mornings any more. Luckily, my daughter is between seasons (very briefly) and my son isn't playing baseball this season (he needs to focus on schoo a little more). They do get their share of cartoons though. Cartoon network is on 24 hours a day and I believe Nickleodean has their share of cartoons. I have watched my share of SpongeBob Squarepants there, and so have my kids. They did watch cartoons on the weekday mornings before they started school. When I became a stay at home mom, part of my routine was to wake up, make breakfast and watch the morning kid shows with my daughter and then my son. To answer the other part of your question. Yes, as a child I did watch the Saturday morning cartoons. There were also some non cartoon shows that I used to watch. I believe one was called creature feature another was something about a bunch of kids on an island with dinosaurs? I used to watch, Underdog?, Mighty Mouse, Superfriends, Isis (non cartoon), I miss School House Rock also. That's all I can remember right now.

I remember that show about the kids with the dinosaurs. You are right. There used to be some non-cartoon shows that were fun also.

I don't have any kids but I watch a lot of the comedy series that are on for kids. I miss all of the looney tunes cartoons from a long time ago.

I loved the Looney Toons. They were so much fun. It is too bad our children have no idea what they have missed out on.

I used to watch cartoons together with my niece, but I don't do it anymore since I've been very busy as of late. But I do get to watch cartoons sometimes, like Spongebob, Justice League Unlimited and The Simpsons. I think these cartoons are too mature for kids to watch, so I make sure that my niece won't get to watch them. Also, I like watching The Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy, as I find Billy and Grimm wacky!;) As for the cartoon that I miss, I am a Transformers fan, so sorry if I missed watching those. The smurfs are cute too, as they are also cuddly.

first of all i don't have children and i'm still single. ^__^ my nieces and nephews though love watching Saturday mornings cartoon and sometimes it would just irked me so much because they turn on the tv so early that we have to yell at them just to make them help at the household chores. ^.^ they usually watch dragonball, spongebob, dora, alice in wonderland, and other classic cartoons and new anime series. i don't watch with them because its either i have already watched the show or i don't really have much interest with it. LOL i was like them too before. i would watch my favorite anime series before. there's also other cartoons but i can't remember if they were shown every Saturday morning like carebears, flinstones, looney toons, captain planet, x-men, the chipmunks, and others. ^__^ now i only watch my favorite anime series on dvds and sometimes on tv, and my favorite cartoons on tv too but on Sundays. ^__^;;

I don't have kids but I still watch Saturday morning cartoons. I really don't like most of modern day cartoons.I do like the transormers but always hated the power rangers. I prefer back in the day-my personal favorite looney tunes ,garfield,justice league,popeye,mickey mouse. Modern day cartoons are eith er extrememly violent or they glorify disfunctional families.

Captain cave maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan ! That was what first popped into my head when I read your discussion. I loved the Smurfs too. They don't even really have Saturday morning cartoons they way we used to. They have shows on pretty much 24/7 now. I like some of the shows my boys watch. They are 10 & 8 and mostly watch Animal Planet and Discovery Channel, so not too many cartoons anymore.

lol I still watch Saturday morning cartoons. I'm just a kid at heart I guess! On the CW networl, they have newer versions of the old cartoons. There is the Tom and Jerry cartoon, the Johnny Test cartoon, Krypto the Super Dog (which is like justice league with animals, they follow the cartoon formula from the 60's and 70's). They also have a Scooby Doo cartoon. In other words, this station is going back to older roots for cartoons.
