I recently saw the musical version of The Color Purple in New York( Fantasia was supposed to be performing but wasn't able to do so). How do you think the play compares to the book or movie? Which version (play, book, or movie)do you prefer and why?

I really want to see the play up in NY (then Chicago) but just haven't been able to. I have enjoyed the movie tremendously, but hopefully I can get to see the play.
