Sweeping it under the rug.

Have you ever sweep things under the rug when you find out on short notice that you are getting company? Or have you quickly hidden things so they are out of sight and the place looks neater? Or do you think that since they didn't get much notice, they should accept your home for the way it is? I cleaned good tonight because I am having company. But there have been times when I just quickly sweep around a rug....or hidden dirty pans in the oven. How about you?

I have shoved a whole bunch of stuff into my bedroom closet before. I usually manage to get the kitchen clean, but the living room is often cluttered.

I see they are now making storage units for the living room. They are either foot stool type things or like blanket baskets with lids on them for the living room! You just shove whatever in so it hides the clutter! I might have to get some! LOL

Ummmmmmmm in a word YEAH! I've often shoved unfolded clothes into the wardrobe and prayed that I didn't need to open the wardrobe for anything whilst guests were around or they'd get a shock when all the clothes came tumbling out hahaha! Never have I put dirty pans in the oven though - THANKS FOR THAT IDEA LOL! I do make somewhat of an effort if people are popping around without too much notice but really it's a good way of keeping me on my toes and trying not to keep the house in too much of a mess! If my husband had his way our home would be immaculate 365 days a year and look like no one lived there - he's just soooooooooooooo tidy!

My friends husband is like that. She said at first it bothered her but after a while she thought that if he wanted to go ahead and do all the work it was alright with her! LOL

I never have done that, but I find nothing wrong with it. My problem is that the entire time company was at my house, I'd be thinking about what I swept under the rug, or put in the oven. I probably wouldn't make much sense because I'd be thinking of that.

That hasn't effected me! LOL I would be worrying about what they think if they find my house in total disarray! Thanks for responding.

Never under the rug, but a quick sweep around the rug and yes, I have tucked the pans into the oven or set a basket of unfolded laundry into my bedroom until they left. I hate when people drop in unexpectedly because I like to have my house ready for company, but sometimes it just isn't possible.

I think if you really want to live life you can't spend your whole time cleaning, though I find that if I just put it back from where I got it I have less clutter. I think it's human to have some messes! Thanks for sharing.

If it were just me it wouldn't be quite so bad, but for some reason things seem to be left lying around and nobody else will admit to leaving them out. I'm sure that they didn't get there on their own. You are right though, I'm not going to spend my entire life cleaning. I would like to enjoy my life before it is over!

Hi there. OMG under the rug... I cant get into that lazy habit, I would'nt care who comes around if Im in the middle of cleaning and people come around, I will get rid of them so I can carry on with it and get it done... This doesnt happen with me anyway, because our home is always clean, tidy and presentable, for any univited or invited guests, Im a very house proud person, often called fussy...

Good for you. Most of the time my house is that way. One of my very dear friends says that my house always looks like I am ready for company.

I have gotten into the habit of putting everything away when I am done with it...but my office desk is usually cluttered with junk mail, things to read later and my newspapers that I want to clip some things out of....I just put all of the papers in a pile in the corner if I am going to have company. Lately, I spot sweep in my backhall and kitchen...because I live in an oak woods and bring little pieces of acorns in on my feet...they are so messy. Now that I have a 19 year old grandson living with my...I expect that my home won't always be ready for company. He is really doing good...I asked him if he skipped breakfast the first day of school...I didn't find any dirty dishes in the sink or on the talbe...he had rinsed them and put them into the dishwasher...I guess my daughter has really "trained" him to do as I taught her...yippeeee.

Oh yes, I have hidden things in the closet, in the shower, under the bad. I have hidden things basically anywhere I could hide them.

OMG YES!!! LOL, sweep under the rug, shove things behind the couch into drawers. Heck I even ran thing into my bedroom and shut the door. I hate when company shows up with no phone call or anything. :o(
