I usually install the basic stuff that I frequently use. I won't install those that I seldom use for they will make my computer work more slowly. I use windows xp as my computer is only allowed to use xp instead of vista.

That's why I am thinking about getting a new laptop in a couple of years for it. Thanks for your response, friend.

Vista OS is too choosy when it comes to its hardware. Maybe you should get a new one that has already a Vista installed.

I agree with you that after a few months the computer tends to slow down no matter how fast or how good config computer you are running. This may happen because of the files that are created on the directory or the partition in which the windows or other operating systems are installed. So even I format the computer after a few months may be two or three so that I can enjoy a better performance from my computer. After formatting the computer the first thing I do is definitely installing Windows XP and then I installed all the necessary software is. Recently I am trying to find out a way so that I can burden one DVD with the basic software is which I require and then quickly restored through that CD so that I can get a fast computer from a fresh formatted one with all the software is ready to use so that I can save a lot of time. I had such a CD with me when I had mine HP computer but then I went for a assembled piece and so never got the software CD.

Good to hear that. But it will save you a hundred bucks if you do the assembling in purchasing a PC than buying the whole set or package offered by some Computer Stores.

I have only ever reformatted my hard drive when I had a nasty virus once, apart from that I leave it alone. I am very careful now and never open attachments to emails and have a paid mcafee anti-virus and firewall. I also have spy-ware detectors. That seems to have kept the machine running good.

It is highly recommended dude that you do the reformat every 2 months. It helps to optimized your HD. I have a good software so easy that you don't have to worry in doing such thing. Norton PartitionMagic 8.0.

I've never heard of reformatting so often before - it seems a lot of work to have to reinstall all programs each time. I do the defrag with a program called Perfect Disk 7 and regularly clean out unwanted files. I use a second drive to store all files on and only keep a few on C drive. :-)

what's the need of reformatting your pc every 3 months? what do you use the pc for? i think your cycle is a little bit frequent, just wondering. for your question, i usually install first the OS, followed by antivirus, then some plug ins and add ons, then internet browsers.

Good question. Bugs, Virus and other PC invaders that may harm your PC is quite alarming these days. Because they are so highly up-to-date and sophisticated that even Anti-virus softwares can't handle them. So it is advisable to reformat it once in awhile. Not just for the sake of fast and easy access but for the security of your HD too.

Firefox definitely. Windows Live Messenger, a couple of games.. That's about it. Typically, I reinstall those softwares I have prior to reformatting.
