My son came down the hall last night with toothpate dabbed on several acne zits! He looked so funny! Have you ever heard of toothpaste for acne? This morning I looked at the acne and I was amazed, they were much improved!!! Have you done this? What other crazy remedies have you used for acne?

I've never heard of that but I once used Preparation H thinking it was toothpaste and my gums shrunk so badly I ended up looking like Jimmy Carter with veneers.

I knew that they were great for fever blisters...but I would think that there are many other uses. Interesting topic too....

Hi there! Since childhood we have been applying toothpaste on acnes and on burns. It comes in very handy when we get simple kitchen burns aswell. I have even gone to the extent of applying chloride toothpaste on my pimples - it really worked wonders. While My grandmother introduced it and we are still following it today. smiles..

I thought that was just a redneck thing! I guess not. We used to do that years ago. I did not have acne thank god, but when I got "that time of the month" zits I always used to use good old toothpaste. HOWEVER it was supposed to be paste and not gel. PS I'm back. Not full time ......too much to do. but I will be doing some much needed catching up in the next couple of weeks.

Yes, it's true, it's a well-known common home remedy for acne, here at least. I've tried it too, but it doesn't work too well for me. It's different for everyone, but I have heard good stuff about this particular experiment. Apparently it dehydrates and dries up that particular part which is what most acne remedies also do. So it's a good cheap way to improve them a bit.

Yes, I've heard of this method and I used to do it when I was a teen. It's sort of a folk remedy, and it actually works really well. I think it kind of draws the pus out as it shrinks when it dries. I haven't tried other home remedies as this one works great.

I have never heard of it. That does sound different, but if it works, it works. Maybe I will have to tell my son. He is having alot of trouble with acne later.

I have read this someplace, but I do not remember when. Does it also work on adult acne, do you know? I read so many helpful hint books, that I do not know where I read it before.

I'm not sure bout it.. but i remember before, i need to change the brand of my toothpaste because my dermatologist advised me to do so. According to her, there are some brands of toothpastes that are harsh for my skin, that's why i have to choose a brand that won't irritate my face.

Oh my I have never heard of that. My hubby’s family has acne really bad, I mean every one of his siblings and himself had it and their father before them. Now his nieces and nephew have it. I worry about my girls being my 11-year-old is already fighting pimples. I don't know, the toothpaste may help temporally to reduce the redness and swelling with the mint in it, but I would think in the long run it might make it worse because of clogging the pores. So tell him to be careful. I heard rumors the caffeine can cause them be worse, so I have cut out the girls. They never really got a lot of it to begin with, but things like chocolate and pop I have exchanged with fruit and fruit juices. Can't say I have noticed a change, but it's healthier for them in the long run.

Yes, I read about it..and told my son, who told his friends about it the night before the Junior prom. They all tried it that night and looked much better in the morning. I was the hero that day! BTW- it should just be the white stuff, not the gels and something in the blue toothpaste makes it too harsh. That is the only one my son said actually works.

I've heard of it. The oxygen/peroxide and baking soda are part of what kills the bacteria involved in white/red acne. There are also herbs and enzymes that can help break down the nasty bacteria in the infected pores.

Yeah, this girl told me once about this joke she played on one of the girls that asked her how she keeps her skin so smoothly, she told her that she uses toothpaste. The next day when she saw that girl, she had a very bad reaction to the toothpaste against her skin. Once I heard that story, I never wanted to go there. I didn't know how my skin would react to the toothpaste at all. I think it is just crazy in my opinion to use toothpaste for acne.
