Do you like rainy weather? What is your favourite activity to do when it's raining? Do you like the smell of the rain? Why/Why not? Personally, I have always loved the rain. Living just out of the city, the air is fairly clean and the smell that comes before, during and after the rain is just superb. It smells so fresh and clean. I love to sit by my window and watch the rain, rugged up with a book and a warm cup of tea or soup. Either that, or I love to go out walking and dancing in the rain - it feels fantastic and it's so rejuvenating and refreshing. It almost confirms to me that I am alive. So what about you? Do you enjoy the rain?

I love the rain. I especially love the smell of the rain in summer, it always has a more fresher smell than just ordinary winter rain. I think i've grown to love rain more now that i live in a rural town that is now said to be drought stricken. So when it rains it's more special. Sadly winter has just passed and we are now into spring, there will still be more rain (hopefully) but the best of it has gone. I just hope for some really good summer rain! That's the best!

You're in Australia as well then are you? We've just passed 2 weeks of gorgeous rain on the eastern coast, and unfortunately I think that'll be it for a few weeks =[ I agree, summer rain is just beautiful! Hot nights, with the cool breeze and the sound of rain on the roof! It's awesome =D

hi Maylck,i love the rainy season as there are many reasons behind it..LOL..lets begin..i was born in a rainy month(august) and the day i was born it was raining and so its related to me since birth and love it imagining the time i was born..LOL..well i like it for the freshness it creates, for the whether that results because of raining as its very pleasing you see..and my garden starts looking more beautiful and green when its raining..well for the activity i do when its raining is somewhat same to you as i enjoy dancing too with splashing rain water with my feet everytime a change a step..LOL..its really fun..another thing i do is i sometimes sing when it rains..singing in the rain and you won't believe i sing this song..i know you will find it funny but its true and i am doing it since 4rth standard..LOL..then i like to take hot tea or coffee or even soup(i am crazy about hot and sour soup specially when its raining it just makes me feel on cloud nine..lol)like you do too and in addition i like to eat some fresh french fries or snacks..i can never understand this combo of snacks and soup in raining season but this combo rocks..then when i feel exhausted i just sit in my lazy couch and enjoy watching falling drops or the beauty of sky..so in short i love rains and the scenario that results because of it..bbyee

Wow, thank you so much for your insightful response! You and I have very similar rainy-day activities, it's great to know people who have the same love and passion for the rain =D

Its raining, its pouring is so morbid - like all of Mother Goose! But then - so am I, just for fun I think of worst case scenarios, not to make myself anxious but to wile away the time. The Sci-fi channel had a marathon event of my kind of movies - like "Ice" a B movie about some collision with earth rendering it frozen. 'Course now that I have a baby, ocassionally I'll think of things in an un Emily the Strange type way - like things I actually worry about! Okay back to the topic. I love rain, its been thundering and lightening all day (and no real migraine - just a headache yay) and as always it makes me want to start something - especially right before - but even during. Reminds me I want to live a life less ordinary. After rain, yes it smells fresh and clean - but also like potential. I know most would say the smell and anticipation you get in the air before a storm is more like that - but I feel/smell it afterwards. And I so agree with what you said about rain confirming you're alive. I feel that too.

I haven't watched the sci-fi channel in so long! Alex doesn't have austar/foxtel/cable here, so it's just the good ol' internet for me =D I tend to do that as well.. In a morbidly amusing way perhaps. Potential works, definitely, I can feel that too; new, fresh, exciting, full of opportunity. Yay for lack of migraine! That's the way girl! =P

I wonder if Sci-fi allows you to watch shows and such like other stations - our CW station - www.cwtv.com - lets you watch shows - like Supeernatural - and internet is how I watched all of the Jericho episodes - remember that's the one about life after nucleur war - it was still winter and the baby was small - pre-colic - and slept most of the time - so I would cuddle with him in our big fluffy chair and place the laptop on the arm and I wiled away two or three days watching that. I know Sci-Fi has a site - think I'll check it out - I can watch First Wave - have you seen that series, Sebastian Spence plays Cabe Foster, a former thief who discovers a vast conspiracy of alien infiltration on our planet. It combines the prophecies of Nostradomus and science fiction. Good stuff.

My appreciation for rain increases with age, and an ability to stop caring what my hair looks like, but just enjoy the mist, drizzle, downpour and feel it's refreshing of my soul as it replenishes moisture to the earth. I especially love thunderstorms. Since you have shared before, I hope you won't mind if my comment takes the form of a poem from a couple of years ago. Let's hope the line breaks stay :) I sat on the railing just under the porch edge A silver sheet streamed like a shimmering curtain to my stage. And I, behind it Awaited my cue. In the distance grew a growling tympany stirring the audience with a drumroll throwing its voice east to west. I accepted the introduction and stepped forth. The shuttered sky opened into light, as I stood soaking in the thunderous ovation.

Thank you very much. I forgot to include the title. The poem is called Rain Theatres. I find more and more the rain creeps into my writing. I have learned a lot about the beauty of a grey sky as opposed to the commonplace blue, for every sunny day is alike, but each stormy day is unique.

So true, and once again so poetic! I always find the rain, and storms inspiring, and I long for them during a sunny day. Very suiting title, too =D Thanks again for sharing, I hope you have a wonderful day!

Your first paragraph is poetic in itself, before that beautiful piece of writing came to life on the screen! I so know what you mean about enjoying it more the less you care about your hair! =P I certainly don't mind you sharing: I absolutely adore it! I'm a terrible critique, though, and I feel ridiculous attempting to comment on it, so I apologise in advance. The line breaks worked and are extremely affective, and I particularly enjoyed the theme of a performance/being on stage. It follows through so well, and I find myself sitting here, putting myself in your place and watching the show with wonderment. Funnily enough, it's been raining all morning! Thank you so much for sharing, Rollo! Mal.

I love the rain for the first day or two after ages without rain, but when it's been falling for a couple of weeks, it just makes me want to see the sun again. Not that it ever rains that much here, but too much at once totally spoils it. And I hate the mud.

I used to just LOVE rainy days and nights (except I DO NOT nor have I ever liked the sharp snapping thunder due to my PTSD..rolling thunder I love..that other kind though is NOT a friend of mine at all)....NOW however, as much as mentally and emotionally etc I love the rain and rainy days/nights PHYSICALLY it does a HORRIBLE number on me so I'm not as fond of it as I used to be...

It makes me happy too. I also associate the rain with my grandmother who passed away a few years ago, so I feel like she is supporting me, which makes me happy and grateful =D I take it that you don't like school then?

Yes! the trees in the rain are just awesome! If I'm out walking in the rain, or just after, I love to shake the branches and have the water droplets shake off the leaves and onto me; I don't know why, but I've loved it since I was young =]

Its raining , its pouring the old man is snoring...I still love that poem and when my kids blurt out with this rhyme, when its raining it just makes our feet tap. Its such fun to get wet inthe rain and we all love the rain, but for my husband, he does not like getting wet. But kids and me, we have a whlae of a time getting wet, but not always, as the kids need to go to school too and would get fever etc, but off and on we do indulge in getting wet. And there after eating " pakoras" which are hot and deep fried made out of chickpeas flour and potaotes or onions etc. And have a hot cup of tea or coffee, and its the best thing we can do, just sit and see the rain falling down. The smell of the falling rain, the first rain on the ground, send such a lovely feeling to our senses, and the smell lingers on for some time after the rains are over too. It refreshes us, and rejuvenates us too. I wonder at times, what life would be for those people who get no rain at all, specially in th desert areas, where its very scanty, guess they ought to come over to our side for those few months, and share life with us :)

It's great that you share that with your children, even if your husband would rather watch from undercover =D I love pakoras! And they are a great cold/rainy weather food, as well as one of my favourites. I agree, people who rarely see the rain should come and experience its beauty first hand =D

ITs depend. There are times that i like the rain and there are times also i don't like it. Especially if it is working days and i don't like to bring an umbrella with me. I am more prefer to bring a jacket with head cap. If its week end and raining i love it and its nice to sleep when its raining;)

I definitely agree with sleeping during the rain. I love the sound of the rain falling outside and on the roof. It's so peaceful and serene. If I have plans or have to walk around in the city or something, then it's not all that nice. Just cold and wet and annoying... Crowded =P

Last time I went to Vic. was January this year. Stayed around Shepparton area. There was not a day below 35 degrees, but then it would go ahead and rain and be windy and cold at night. I do so love Melbourne and Victoria, though! =D

You've made me crave a nice walk in the rain! It's heating up here in Australia, so when it rains it's just beautiful at the moment. I have to agree - rain with cold and wind isn't pleasant. Not if you have to be outside for any reason.

I suppose it can be a little scary at times, but I just love the heavy rain and storms as well as the beautiful light 'sprinkles'. I wouldn't like being stuck in a flood, though. Fortunately nothing like that has happened in my town, although some nearby areas have had severe floods over the years, especially Sydney and Newcastle. Thank you for your response =D

It's raining here in our place, as it is rainy season now here in the Philippines. Though floods are common during these times, we are one of those few lucky people who don't experience it!;) I prefer raining over hot and humid summer season, becauseit gives me a cold feeling. When summer, I feel uneasy and gets easily irritated most of the times. I enjoy playing indoor games, like chess, scrabble, word factory and also play some video games or spend time here on mylot!;) Rainy season also saves some of my money, as I don't have to go out more just to enjoy time outside the house. When at home, all we do is eat, rest and sleep!;)

i live in the desert. so rain doesnt come around very often, but when it does i certainly cherish it! i love sitting on the back porch and watching it fall or watching the lightening hitting the mesa in the distance. i love the wonderful smell of rain coming and the damp earth smell during a rainstorm. ive sat for hours at the window watching a real heavy storm, and loved every minute of it. i dont however like getting wet in the rain! lol i guess im more like a cat in that aspect!

So poetic a response =D Storms are just amazing, I especially love it when we lose our power for the night. Getting to light candles and sit, watching the rain in candlelight is so beautiful =D My dog was a bit like a cat in that aspect. He'd get himself stuck out on the middle of our property during the rain and we'd have to go find him standing under a tree or bush, trying to keep dry =P

I like rain especially when it's hot and the weather becomes cool. when weather is cool i don't easily get tired when i'm working and the smell of the environment changes. however, i usually like it to rain in the evening or night so the following day i can continue whatever i'm doing without interuption.

Hi Malyck I don't know where you come from but I live in London, United Kingdom; and the rain here is not too nice. I do agree with you that it is lovely to be snuggled up inside when it is cold and rainy outside but personally I hate the rain in England. It is cold, wet and smells far from fresh.
