My BIGGEST pet peeve about pets...

"IT" I HATE that word when it comes to pets, or any animal. IT is used for inanimate objects. Anyone who has a s*x, even if they have been fixed, still are considered a he or she. Even if I don't know the s*x, I'll choose one until I know for sure. I cringe when I hear that word, and if someone is talking about one of my 'kids', I promptly tell them that I don't have any "ITs". When someone is telling me about their own pet, if they use that term, I ask if they are talking about a boy or a girl. IT is genderless, and I don't know any creature that is genderless. Would you call your children 'IT'? I don't understand why people call their pets IT. I need to write to Cat Fancy about this. As a cat magazine, I am appalled that they use this term frequently. DOes this bother anyone else? What do you think about people who own ITs? What pet peeves do you have regarding pets?

If I don't know the gender of an animal, I will say 'the cat', or 'that dog', because 'it' doesn't sit well with me either. Especially when it is kids. I can't believe how many people refer to children as 'its.' My pet peeve about pets is when the pet owners puts a collar on their animal, and then drags them wherever the owner wants to go. If they can afford it, they need to get a harness, but never should you pull on a leash like that because it is dangerous for the poor animal.

Yeah, and the dogs don't know any better and practically strangle themselves!

I don't particularly like the word "it", either when describing my babies. When I talk to them, and them, it is my babies, or my kitties, or my doggies. They are a major part of my life, and without them, I would just be miserable. I see them as family members, not just animals. I hate it when people say, they're only dogs, or they're only cats. That's boloney, as far as I'm concerned, they're my 4 legged children.

I think that our brainwaves are running along the same lines. I know my pets are definitely not ITS, and I also hate it when people refer to them that way. I also really hate when people say that pets are "just animals". It's obvious that those kinds of people haven't spent time getting to know a pet and learning how much unconditional love a family pet can have.

No, this doesn't bother me at all. But I don't prefer to my puppy as IT either. I see him as a part of my family so I treat him well, therefore, he isn't an IT to me. Definitely, it will bother me if someone call their children as IT. That's just rude and inconsiderate. Don't let it bother you, IT is just a word that certain people are used to.

In my eyes, my cat is my little boy. He's like a child that I adopted and did not birth myself. Sure he's not a human being but he's my little boy and I love him more than anything. I'd never tolerate someone calling him an it! Sometimes I never understand why people get pets when they don't care about them. You should only be allowed to have a pet if you understand that, like having a significant other and/or child, it becomes a part of your family!
