What do you do when you get so depressed that you can't stand it?

Depression - Deep depression

I'm there! With all of the psych meds I take and the good couple of good things that have happened in my life recently today has been the most depressing day I've had in a very long time. I went out and did some errands and even treated myself to french toast stix at burger king for breakfast! I looked around a couple of dollar stores I don't often get a chance to and I even had money to spend but only bought what I needed which is NOT me! I came home and gave my new bird Mookey some new treats and played with him for awhile and for that short while I forgot about my problems but nothing lasts long...especially feeling good. I have a couple of possibilities for later tonight but nothing concrete so tonight could be a total bust. What do you do to get yourself out of depression? Can you usually see it when it's coming or does it just happen out of nowhere?

I have been battling depression for many years, ctry, and if I've learned one thing, it's that sleep is the best thing. Sleep is healing and restorative. When I've slept for awhile, things don't look half as bad when I wake up. Grab you a nap for an hour and see if that doesn't improve your outlook.(:

There are different schools of thought on sleep. Sometimes I will go for a nap and sleep a whole day away waking up feeling horrible or even worse in the middle of the night and feeling more depressed. I do try to take small naps during the day but they really are just a way for me to hide from my problems.

Well I can relate to this. The weather has been cloudy here today and I do not want to be at work. I am just looking forward to getting off. I have been working hard not to make mistakes here and I made a minor one today on something I did not know, but I still feel bad about it. All I can do is learn from it and move on I guess.

It's a good thing we have sunshine here because cloudy days make me feel even worse! I hope your day got better for you.

What do you do to get yourself out of depression? I sing silly and loud, jump on the trampoline, dance crazy mad with the stereo up real loud and / or I will put my head in the pillow and scream at the top of my lungs, LOL. Can you usually see it when it's coming or does it just happen out of nowhere? I can mostly see when it's coming, it takes things going wrong in life and building up to trigger it in me. It's an effect of stress mostly, so I pretty much know when it's going to happen.

hhhmmmmm... Sometimes I can see it coming, and other times it just springs on me. I usually have the "breakdown" about once every two or three months or so. And by that I mean the time when you laugh so hard that you cry for an hour, and don't even know what made you start laughing to begin with. If this happens to me, after I have dried my tears, and finished trying to figure out what I was laughing at. I go SHOPPING! I usually just window shop until I find tht one thing I just can't live without. That usually helps, just the time to get out of the house is awesome. Hope this helps you and don't feel bad, I am there too right now.

I wonder if it has something to do with the time of year! It seems a lot of us are feeling depressed all of a sudden doesn't it? Yes window shopping is a lot of fun for me too.

I try to think about the good things in life; but sometimes the depression can last several hours. It is difficult sometimes to get rid of the depression due to some depressions are caused by an imbalance in the chemistry of the brain. That is why the psych medicines are necessary for people with a chemical imbalance.

Boy, do I know about chemical imbalance! I'm on psych meds for the rest of my life because of it. Today is a new day and I woke up feeling the same way. Hopefully when I take my days meds I'll feel better.

its actually mind over matters..if you let those negative things pull you down, it will definitely pull you down. mind over matters like what i always tell myself when things gets tough..i know there is always a solution in all troubles..its only a matter of how to solve it...

I didn't check to see how old you are but I have to tell you that there isn't ALWAYS a solution to all of our troubles.

I watch a movie or read book or go for a long walk, or a drive, try and change my thoughts, try and think about the breaks, the advantages, etc that I've had and still have in life. I visit a park or a resort and watch children playing, watch their innocence, enjoy their laughter, their games, their idiocies and also look at the bounties that nature has, its beauties, the fragrances............. Basically I try and take my mind away from the matter that has depressed me. Life's Lovely! Love & Live Life!

hi sweetie, I have been getting depressed currently and there have been enough reason for it. I am not on medication and whenever i feel i am getting down and low i just confine myself more. i have tried with freaking out and having blast with friends but nothing works. May be i can only go for a long long drive, all alone but it hardly works. Time is the only healer, and i feel no matter how much i try i cannot get over my blues easily. smiles..

It is imperative at this time that you understand what it is that has led you to this place, and you begin to solve your problems. You must change your thoughts and change your behaviours.

MUSIC... as loud as my neighbors can stand!! And no sad songs allowed... I can also hear you assuming things will go badly... the negative vibe promises that they will! I'm disappointed quite often due to circumstances that are totally out of my control... if I start bummin' its the music and mylot... if I need more I call my kids or go cruise their myspace pages. One of these things is gonna make me laugh... then its bye-bye depression!

Having 2 daughters (and a son, and 6 grands) is a reason for me to smile a lot... if it gets bad, I make greeting cards for the whole year in one or two days, or I cook much more than we need and have to invite someone over... make a list of all the suggestions you get here, and next time the evil funk comes on try one... or try them all! Depression can't win!

Mine definitely hits me out of the blue. I could be in a really great mood and some small thing could ruin it. I hate when that happens. It not only confuses me, but it confuses my husband as well. Thankfully it doesn't happen often anymore. The greatest tool is a good support system. I have my husband most of the time who recognizes when I need to get out. He won't let me pull away and hide in bed. Talking usually helps me a great deal too. I hope you feel better soon.

First, I call my friends. If they are not available, then I just take a shower and cry. Usually, crying makes me feel tired, so I can go to sleep. If I still feel like the end of the world, I go to counseling center, or call my doc's nurse. While I wait for their calls, I cry and cry endlessly until I can no longer cry.

as for me, i try to sleep.if it doesnt work then i go to a happly place. say a park near to our house sit there and reminisce with happy memory to overcome my depression. my mindset tries to forget the depressing memory and i try hard to focus on what shuld i do tomorow or errands i must accomplished. when i usually sleep, it is really very effective in remiding me more of the things that i must be busy with and not those that mkaes me depressed.try your best to overcome it friend by being positive thinker my friend.

I can feel being depressed when I get fed up at work and at home... I have this routine feeling of doing my job. Sometimes when I get ready for work I get this feeling of depression so what I'll do is that I will skip work and drive my car and have a 4 hour road trip just to get out of that routine so that I can see new places and meet new friends...

if i'm depressed, it's usually about nothing big, but i'll just lie in bed and have a good cry about everything. after that, i feel so much better.

if you have kids, just spend more time with them. they are source of happiness. or just listen some relaxing music.
