Blocked in Again!

The construction work is just down the road from me this week. Yesterday it took me 10 minutes to get out of my driveway because the backhoes and dump trucks were blocking the way to the main road. Today they are closer and I hope it won't take so long for them to move. My first client lives on the other side of town and I don't like being late. Hopefully they will get this over with soon so we can get on with our lives. Unfortunately the last section they did took them over a month to complete.

I have had to suffer from construction blocking our road and have to drive around two blocks to get back almost to where I started from. On top of that we have had them cut through the telephone lines twice and cable lines three times!!...No phone and no Internet of TV. I felt cut off from the world.

We have been without water on a number of occasions. They broke a water main when they were digging up the road.

Its not too good when that happens, if they had any sense, they would discuss with you what times you need to get out and in, and allow for that, access should always be maintained to your premesis at all times, but being realistic there willbe sometimes when you are blocked in or out. It should be up to them to keep you informed, not the other way around.

They are actually more accomodating now that I have been cooperative with them. They come to the house when they see my car in the driveway. They know that I have to be out of here at a certain time.

I know it is a pain while they are working. They have been doing remodeling in the store next to us, and we share a driveway. They have blocked the driveway for about the last 4 months. Hope it is over for you soon.

Oh boy I hate when they do that. You would think they would be a bit more considerate when working in a residential area. I know they have some large equipment they have to move around, but honestly they are the ones blocking the road, so how are you to solve this?? Hopefully they will have extra amounts of coffee today and actually get it done and get out of there. But again, they are paid by the hour so I wouldn't hold my breath, LOL.

They now have made a few ways that we can bypass the areas in which they are working. But, we still have to wait for the big equipment to move out of the way.

I am sure that does drive you batty. Hopefully they will be done soon enough. I know when the buses are going up to the school I can't get out for awhile, so I leave earlier just so I am not late.

I leave earlier now that school has started. When you encounter a bus on its way to pick up kids for school you have to allow for at least 2-3 stops. So I leave about 10 minutes early as it is.

lol, I am traped with you! They are putting in new water pipes near my home and I had to find an alternate way to get home. a two minute trip took me 15 minutes with all the detours. sometimes I wonder if they could just do this at night so the traffice would not be affected! But my friend I know how you are feeling, and hope for a quick end to our construction woes!

I am not sure I would want the noise at night. When they broke a water main, it was noisy until 9:00 p.m. when they finally fixed it.

ooooh that would make me feel trapped as well, I hate it when people block you in, my neighbour sometimes parks a little over my drive way and it makes it very hard to get out sometimes but I don't like to complain, some people get a little narky when you complain so for peace sake I put up with it, luckily she only does it sometimes...

I just go with the flow. NO need to get upset over what you have no control over.

Oh, I can't stand that. I hope they get it finished quickly. I can't stand being late to somewhere that I'm going either. I hope you got there on time.

Here where I live, they been working on the main street for 6 months now and they are still not done. They are making the streets wider. It taks a person 15 minutes to get through the construction work just to get to the other end of town.

What a nuisance. Is there o weay there can leave a small acerss for you to get in & out? I thought road constructions were supposed to allow for resident access to their home.

Wow-- I hate construction- it just isn’t fun! I sat in it yesterday on lunch trying to get to Wal-Mart. 23 minutes on the way and 15 minutes on the way back to work! I was going crazy- I hope they finish up soon for you also- I can’t imagine having a hard time getting out of my driveway!

Do not worry, when fall comes the construction season will be over, and you will be able to get through. This happens to us every summer. When we went to Saskatoon, part of the highway was blocked off and we had to take the L O N G way off, at a slow 70 kph to get to where we wanted. You say a month to complete. Do you believe, the highway still has not been finished yet?

While a situation like this can be frustrating, Elusive, you have to look at the big picture. The end results will probably make your street much safer and improve driving conditions. I hope that you will not be delayed too much by this work. Sometimes we just have to have a good deal of patience:)

I would be annoyed too if they were doing construction right where I live and blocked me in. That is terrible that you have to wait for them to move their machines out of the way. They should find a way to do their work without blocking anyone in since people have to go to work and do other things.
