This are some of the last boulder Opals that I polished in May 2006, and just before I started with the Internet again. I will upload more of my opals, and boulder opals under my pictures shortly as there are some wonderful examples in between that I'd like to share with MyLotters friends:)

Boulder Stone - Boulder Opal is an exquisite gem, having a unique brilliance of colour found in no other precious stone. Many things about it are attractively different, especially the strong natural back and stability.

Boulder Opal, the magnificent gem is found only in the vast arid regions of western Queensland. It is a beautiful child of the desert and to those who would seek her hiding place. It is not a child of the crude and tasteless, but a symbol of purity and hope, stirring the hearts and passions of all with people twinkling eyes and tantalising beauty.'
Your discussion remind me about my Boulder Opal. I hastily snapped mine with my cellphone and uploaded it to my computer. I bought it when I was staying at Swantson Street, Parkville, Melbourne Australia for 5 years and on that time one day I'd rubbed into someone that sold this to me. I bought it $25AUD. And this is mine(insert photo).

I placed it near my 'SALT LAMP' in my bedroom. And my salt lamp always switching "ON" through out the year.

Hi again Michael, and the spot you have placed your boulder sounds more than ok to me :) Opals need light so that one can see the colors shining, and while turning these around in your fingers there is the real fire work :)

They are beautiful stones. Do you make jewelry with them? The larger stone would make a wonderful necklace.

Hi again my friend, and thank you for your responce here, and for liking the group of boulder opals :) Yes, perhaps this one will become some day a piece of jewelry, but for now I am just leaving these to be as they are. Did you know that the gems are far more worth as gems than when placed into jewelry? ;)

Hi Prettiemammie, thank you for your responce in this discussion :) And sure, I was purchasing rough opals from the mines in Queensland, directly from the miners and was cutting and polishing these for several years. With some I made jewelry, others I kept as they are in my collection, and again others I sold.

Beautiful stuff Fortunes. I really like them. I also fiddle with jewels and crafting on occasion so its good to see another person in that area. If you can, try to get other gems to work with or at least to collect. I have a pad of all birthstones and its good for me, at least for art/craft inspiration.
