Are People Lying On Mylot?

Have you ever read someones post and felt as though they just had to be lying. That just happened to me for the first time today. I got a response from a person claiming to be a professional(I will not say exactly what, but I will give you multiple choice. Lawyer, Teacher, Doctor, Psychologist, Dentist, and Secretary). Now, I am not saying that there is no way that these kind of professionals would work on Mylot. But, the post did not make much sense at all. So, not only is this person a professional, but they are one that is not too bright. I am not perfect, but when I post on Mylot, I am as honest as possible. I do not make up stories or titles behind or in front of my name to try to impress anyone. I am who I am and that is all I can and want to be. Have you ever felt like you ran into someone who was lying about who or what they really were? How did you handle it?

What did the "professional" say? Maybe the point didn't make much sense because the person just wasn't from an English-speaking country and couldn't express his/her point clearly in English. I've seen posts like that here before, and on other sites too. I don't bother lying about myself when I'm online. It seems really pointless. I think I've met a few people who were lying about themselves, but it's hard to know for sure on the internet. Plus. incompetent professionals really do exist, so they might be telling the truth while still being stupid at the same time. If I think someone is full of bull, I usually just ignore them. But sometimes, their opinions or "facts" are so stupid that I have to say something about it.

It was not that they could not speak English. The words were all spelled correctly, they just did not make any sense. I know that there are people here who have problems with the English language, but they don't sign off as being a doctor either.

Correct spelling doesn't mean they can speak English. They might be using a spell-checker to catch spelling mistakes, but it wouldn't be able to correct messed-up sentence structure or other grammatical errors.

No...when I started mylot I've been honest and all the discussions that I made are based on my experience. Sometimes I got them from my friends too. I don't want to hurt people and I don't have peace of mind if I lied.

I am the same way and that is good. I was thinking that if I met someone and I wanted them to get to know the me a little better. I would tell them to go to Mylot and read.

Must be wise enough to discern it. Try not to mind those people. They are doing nonsense. Just ignore their post, and focus on those that matter or have sense to you.

Hiya Rozie. I haven't come across any posts where I thought they were lying but some posts I read are a bit far fetched, sometimes they seem unreal or made up but if I have something to say, or can offer some advice, i still do even though I am not 100% sure that the post is for real LOL As for those claiming that they are professionals, it does make you wonder what they are doing on mylot though and whether they are telling the truth or not.

Well, the one that I came across seemed to be far fetched and I could not understand it enough to respond to it. That is why I was so shocked when he signed off as a Ph.D. But, maybe he is a doctor, somewhere in the backwoods of this world, who knows.

Just yesterday, I ran into someone I KNOW was lying. I think there are people who make up things to make their posts more interesting or whatever. I am TOTALLY honest to a fault at times. I am here as the name everyone I know, knows me by and my pictures are there for all to see. What I say can always be verified. But I think there are some here who do stretch the truth or make things up. I know there is one because I just read the post and it is simply untrue. I won't go into it but trust me when I say, it was a completely false story. I didn't call the person out directly because someone else did but I did add that I felt this is a place to share REAL experiences and ideas and not to try to make things up or mislead people. You meet all kinds on the net!

I am honest to a fault most of the time too, but I am not perfect. I have never lied on Mylot, because I do not see the point in it. There were some things that I did not share until I felt comfortable with sharing them with everyone though. I want to live my life as an open book to the world. That is the only way that I can tell of God's blessing and miracles in my life. My motto is, if you don't want to know, don't ask, because I might just tell you. I do not know how many times people have asked me a question and after I answer it, they look at me as if I just punched them in the stomach.

A few times I did feel like someone is lying. And others have felt the same about me (though people who know me and my posts know I'm VASTLY SMARTER than the average bear and that I'm not lying). I'd have to see the sample post Rozie, but I understand the need for privacy. Respected and noted. Of course there could be the possibility the guy is very old and really has no idea how the profession works nowadays. They might know how it worked in like the 30s but for todays world, nope. I have to work with a few people like this all the time. Its no fun...

So you saying that this is a retired, broke, coo coo doctor working on Mylot. Okay, but as long as he is not lying. I mean let's face it, stranger things have happened.

I just don't see the point in lying to strangers. We are all in this together. None of us are millionaires are we wouldn't be here. It just seems like such a waste to lie on here. I mean, who is going to be impressed by someone that they don't really know anyway. Some of these nut jobs probably believe the things that they are saying themselves. If I was a doctor working on Mylot. I sure would not tell anyone.

I agree people lie on MyLot, sometimes to give legitimacy to the statements they post. Just today when I read another poster's discussion, a woman posted, and claimed to be a Ph. D. First, would someone with that amount of schooling, spell that badly? And why would that person be on MyLot? It makes no sense. I tell the truth on MyLot. I try to be careful on what I say, so I don't have to be honest about things I don't want to talk about. I don't have to be honest because no one on here knows what I choose not to reveal. So that makes it easier to tell the truth all the time.

I think that we must have come across the same person. I feel that if you are a learned person, it will shine through in your words and style. Putting Ph.D behind your name on Mylot is not going to impress me. We are on here not only to make money, but to share information and help each other problem solve. If someone is lying, it just takes away from the entire site, to me.

One thing I have learned from being on the internet, it's full of people pretending to be something they are not. With me I am what I am, I have always said that it's better to tell the truth to begin with, then you won't have to remember what you said to cover your lies. There are probably a lot of people on mylot who exaggerate themselves to make them look smarter or make them feel better. I can tell usually if someone is genuine and telling the truth. The ones that use all the big words and try to sound like a lawyer or some big shot, I don't usually spend too much time on thier discussions. I like things plain and simple and like to keep it fun. Great discussion Rozie :)

Rozie you sound just like me. Some mylotters mean well, but they get to writing and start using big words and detail after detail, and I get lost and bored. I like it simple. Now for some, they may enjoy it and think of it more as a challenge. But I like to have fun and I don't want to get involved in a discussion that is too time consuming or hard to figure out just what the person is trying to say or what point he/she is making.

That is exactly how I am. Keep it light and by all means, if you are going to do a long topic, make it interesting. I can not tell you how many topics I have began to read and then deleted, out of frustration. Long and boring doesn't work for me. I need to read it, get the idea, respond and go. If one slows me down, I delete it. Especially when I am getting sleepy.

Some people have no problem with making up stories and I am sure it is done quite a lot on Mylot, just to make money. The thing about it is though, if you stay on this site long enough, your lies will start to catch up to you. People may not always comment, but you would be surprised at what they remember. It is best just to tell the truth, even if you do think that you can get away with it. I know I would really be hurt if I found out that one of my friends were lying on here. I really feel for the people who are going through things and if they are lying about it, that would really hurt.

I wouldn't say EVERYONE on mylot lies but you have to understand that on the internet everyone can be anyone and anything they want to be and we would never know. Even is someone says they are some sort of professional don't ever take any advice....go to a REAL one that you are positive is what they say they are.

No, I would never do that unless I really trusted the person. It is just funny when you see that people are obviously lying. You feel like who are they think they are fooling? I started to put it in a response back to the person, but then I thought better of it.

Yes I have Rosie. This person is also on Mylot, and they not only lie but are rating me negative. I can't stand people like this..But because this is the internet you can be anyone you want to be and noone will know any different. I don't have time to lie or make up stories..What I write on here is truth and nothing less...It is a shame that people try to be someone they are not...

This is a first time blog site for me. I never could get into it before. Maybe the thought of people not being honest had something to do with it. I know that this is why I have never liked the club scenes.

People lie all the time not only on Mylot, in life period, I think people do that to get attention. I think itis terrible, that people lie for no reason at all. don't you? I can read a person sometimes, I know when they are lieing.

Well now, with all due respect, I have to disagree with you a little. Lying to get attention is a reason to lie. It is not a good reason, but it is one none the less. Children are experts at those kind of lies. The only problem with that is that their little kid lies can cause big people major problems.

Sometimes it is hard to say if a person is lying or not. A PHD from another country could be on Mylot to improve their English, gain some insight into another culture, pass the time, or earn a little extra. It is true on the internet people can also be whoever they want to be. My experience on Mylot has been that I have come across people who state in their profile for example that they are male and in their twenties. Then all of a sudden they post as a female or describe a problem they have with their 17 year old son or daughter which would make them like 7 years old when they became a parent. So there is a discrepancy. At first I felt annoyed by stuff like this, in particular if I had thought about the post and tried to come up with a helpful answer. I felt betrayed. Now I don't answer any discussions before checking out the posters profile, some of the questions they post and some of their answers. It kind of allows me to make a mental image of the person. Myself, I don't see the need to lie since I am here to learn things and keep my mind active. I can also choose to disclose or not to disclose things about me just by not posting to certain questions which would require that kind of personal information. By the way, good post.

when im responding to a discussion, i try to stay to the facts as possibl, i only exaggerate but i dont lie. i just exaggerate a bitofthis, a bit of that so my response would be a little interesting but i stay to the facts. one thing i have lied at, though, is when they ask real name, birthday, etc.. i dont give that kind of info through the internet............

I agree, as in, there are people who lied, lie, always lie, almost always lie, or always almost lie, but isn't the world we live in, full of lies. we just need to be logical and pick out the truth from it. (like what you did, in your case) on the other hand, sometimes when we exaggerate, aren't we lying? or as they say, it's not a lie, it's a "white" lie. anyhow, i'm not a perfect person as well. i think sometimes i did lie. it depends....

I am not perfect either. But I just got caught in the whole idea of Mylot being a place where we could be honest with each other and not have to hide. I am sure that every one may tell a little white lie here and there on Mylot. It is the obvious lies that irritate me. It's like, come on, who do you think you are fooling. Like telling the world that they are a "doctor," is going to somehow get them points on here, please!!!

yah... i agree... it's just pathetic... hahahaha.... i understand.... i read a few post here as well.... hhmm... there was this one time where a girl was selling a gym equipment to me. She explained in detail how the equipment can build up your biceps and blah blah blah, and sounded like a personal trainer.. when asked to point out where our biceps are, she pointed the triceps... hahahha just pathetic.... lol... totally agree...

Sounds rather suspicious to me. I have discussed my work as a life coach, writer and group leader..but my experience and credentials are easy to check because we have a link to our homepage...so no discrepancies there. I think it is dangerous to take the advice of anyone on line...unless it makes sense and is useful I am sure there are some 'posers' here...just as there are in real life. It is up to the consumer to be aware of what feels off or phony... and trust their instincts. They are often the best early warning signal we have.

You are right. I do have a friend on hear who is a retired registerd nurse and I trust her. Because she has said some of the same things that my doctors say. She comes off as someone who knows what they are talking about. Whereas, this guy comes across as a quack at best, but I am not hear to judge. But, I will beware. I mean, he could be a doctor of some kind of alternative medicine, one never knows.

Of course people are lying on mylot. But what does it matter. It's not like you will ever meet anyone from mylot, in person. So if someone wants to be something else and it makes them happy, so be it. I am not one of them, though. I don't have to pretend to be something I'm not. I'm happy with who I am. I could see people also lying in other areas, too. People like to make up stories just to have something to post, to make it exciting enough that someone responds to them, so they make more money. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Maybe some people have boring lives. Maybe some people are on mylot to make their lives more interesting. I don't know, but if it doesn't hurt anyone, so be it.
