The other morning i was waking up and something told me to look down toward the lake and it's not far just down a little hill and to the lake your there.. Well anyway i looked out to see a black bear crossing, i went to grab my camera but it was to late.. First though i thought it was my big black dog than i looked at the feet and they were huge..lol this is the first time I've ever seen a bear this close to my house, when it got to the other side it started running threw the woods it was kinda neat to sit there and watch it walk threw and run.. My husband said the bear probley smelled my dog and took off running..

That is cool to hear but is it safe to let bears so near to your house? better be a little careful. And one more thing to ask, Are bears afraid of dogs?

I don't think she let it come near her house. I don't think she had a choice.

A black bear that can weigh near 600 pounds will go wherever it wishes.

I have 280 acres up north. When I was a child of maybe 8 or so I recall going into the woods to pick wild blueberries. My older brother & I spotted the 2 cutests black bear cubs maybe 100 yards from us. Of course being youngsters we were curious. So we ventured closer to the cubs. We got within 50 yardsor so. Then suddenly we saw this huge shadow appear. It let out a loud and long growl. It was mama bear. She was nearby getting OUR berries dang it. HAHAHA! Let me say this we never ventured into the back 40 acres again for berries without a loaded shotgun. That was a scary situation. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That would for sure be pretty scary... My mom and I used to come upon bears in the woods too and they stink like wild pigs.. Yuck we know when to leave because we don't want to be attacked by them. Though people say if there is food they won't bother but we never chanced it that's for sure.. We'd just move down the road more away from them so we can get our share of berries too... Thanks for your reply~

Good question just stay away I'm guessing that way they won't harm you.. Of course you know these bears just want to eat like us.. I guess were all wanting those same berries!!!

How funny that a great big bear would be scared off by the smell of a dog. I understand a lot of big animals are put off by dogs. It's kind of cute, but also scary. I can't imagine seeing black bears by my house. I'll stick with the deer and the rabbits. But it sure would have been cool if you had caught it with your camera. : )

I do have two dogs and the small one was out and about roaming around outside.. So our thought was the bear did smell and took off, Why would it run otherwise? Their wasn't anything near him or by him... I have alot of Deer at my house more than I've ever had before and they can become annoying as well... They tend to trot threw everything...
