The national holiday is approaching at the start of October. My job has generously given me a full week (9 days) without work. (Most jobs in China require employees to work the weekends before and after the holidays.) I'm looking for a nice place to visit. I'd like something fairly cheap and quiet with natural surroundings. I'd really like to see something new that will inspire me to start writing more (I've been in a slump). I'd rather find something that isn't too far away from Shenzhen... I really don't want to travel too long on a bus or train during any national holiday. Does anyone have suggestions?

Hello laowai. I work and live one hour away from Hangzhou by bus/ quick bus. I suggest that you come to Hangzhou for travel to see the beauty of the famous West Lake during the National Holiday. There is a train from Guangzhou to Shanghai via Hangzhou if I am not mistaken. You can easily check the information on the Internet. Anyway wherever you plan to spend your holiday, I wish a happy holiday, friend.

I've been interested in visiting Hangzhou. It would be convenient for a short holiday. But I'm still thinking I'd like to go someplace a little less crowded.

Then it might be a good idea for a bike-ride around the country to have some exercise?

I'm a little too scared to take a bike ride around China. I've seen too many crazy drivers here in Shenzhen and too many accidents. I try to avoid being on roads as much as possible.

Maybe you can go to ZhuHai, I think that it is a city which is a great place to live in at GuangDong province.

Yeah, that should be a good idea for throught ZhuHai to Macao, laowai. ^_^ Hehehe~~~,if I have nine days holiday for the National day, my priority will be to go home. secondly, I will take four or five days to go to ZhuHai, during the day, we would visit some tourist attractions,in the late afternoon, I am going to walk along the coast and enjoy the coolness of sea breezes with my classmates. I also want to Macao, but...I haven't got the passport, it is lamentedly. Anyway, wish you have a great travel !

I've been through Zhuhai, but haven't really done anything there. Maybe I'll stay for a day or two and take some time in Macau too.
