My e-gold account is hacked

Yesterday, from my e-gold account a cheat by the name Bala V Rao, with an e-gold account number 471625 funneled my hard earned money ($40) into his account. I have never made any payments to anyone for the last one week from this account. When i Looked into my account the money was gone. How this cheat find a way into my account? What are the possibilities that my account got hacked? What should i do to further protect my account? I am a a novice in this field. Please help.
