Ever found a squirrel?

My friend the Squirrel - Shocked by electricity, Birds, or Cat. Why would this poor creature be laying on the ground unable to move his back legs

Yesterday after arriving home from work, my Msprissy (cat) always greets me at the door. Well I get in the door and go to the back door and call her. I see her in the backyard and she has a friend well I think OH Sam is back, he is a neighborhood cat that comes over to play & eat. Eat being the opperative word, anyway I walk into the backyard and see she has another animal (it's not Sam) so I am thinking at this point, she has gotten another bird. Well it's not moving fast enough, the closer I get I see it's a little squirrel dragging his back legs to get under some brush so he can hide. Tears just welled up in my eyes, (still does just thinking about it) so I see he has been hurt, I look at Prissy and ask her if she has hurt him. Like she's really going to answer me! I just wanted to see her reaction, but she is acting like she really cares. So I call Animal control, we live in a small town and they are there within 15 minutes, which shocked me to no end. But they come and pick the squirrel up and reassured me that he will be taken well care of, it had only just happen, so he wasn't dehydrated or no ants had gotten on him and the poor thing seemed very alert. Do you really think they will fix the poor darling and release him again or do you think that they put him asleep. Because I was thinking of calling them again and asking if they would release him back in my neighboorhood. And do you think my cat did some harm or was just chasing him and he lost his balance. I see this particular one all the time, running up and down the power lines. Give me your opinon!

I had a godown for food products which included wheat flour. The godown was located in a green area with a lots of treets. There were plenty of monkeys and squirrel besides rats. I used to keep the gum pads to catch the rats. Squirrel is quite friendly but scores of them can eat bag ful of foods. Monkeys really trouble a lot if there is food in the building. They used to lift a jam bootle, some how manage to open the seal and sauce bottle andmanage to eat the sauce. I found squirrel is harmless and it is nice to see them around. In fact I wrote 2 discussion topics on this animal and had quite a good response.

I really need reassurance's that include the following: 1. That my cat didn't attack this squirrel 2. That the Humane Society is really goint to fix this creature and let him go back out in the wild. yes, I am very fond of the little creature this is why I am so concerned for the well being of this one and others that come into my yard.

Squirrels - Squirrels are great fun to watch. They are a very content way to spend afternoons in the backyard.

Hi. Ok, I can't say for sure whether or not your cat did it. Were there teeth marks on the squirrell? There really isn't any way to know. But you can't be mad at your cat. That's just what cats do. I used to work for an animal rescue and we did not put animals to sleep that could be rehibilitated. I would call animal rescue if it will make you feel better.

I think you should call animal control and ask. My cats when I was a teenager would actually catch birds, and every time I caught them with one, I would have to drive to the wildlife rescue. My mom would give me $20 to donate, and I would be afraid the bird would die or escape on the way there. It usually turned out okay. Your squirrel is probably going to turn out okay too. He might have had a broken leg - if they can fix it they will. Unfortunately there is the chance that he might not be okay, but at least this way he won't be in a lot of pain. But I think that you got to him in time. Your cat probably was just playing with him - my friend's cat has a squirrel friend, and they just play together. Actually stare at each other. Maybe the squirrel just fell or something.

Well, I don't think theres any way to really know what happened but I think if theres any way to fix him, they will. Years ago, my Mom had a mama squirrel chew through an upstairs window screen and make a nest between the screen and window. She had baby squirrel's up there and it was really neat to go and look at them...though we never opened the window. One day they all went off and never came back. She has huge trees in her front yard near the house and they love running through them. AT PEACE WITHIN ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

If the lil one runs up and down the powerlines alot then could be it fell and broke it's back or both back legs. They prolly put it down if they are anything like our animal control. My cats never hurt squirrels but have killed birds and mice and once I found a freshly killed mole but don't know if my cats or dog were the culprit. Wish I knew so I could encourage them to get the others as well or least scare them enough not to come tunneling in my yard again.

I think it will depend on the damage the squirrel recieved as to wether or not they will put him down or let him recover. I know from my cats that they hardly ever intentionaly hurt another animal as long as they are well fed and not threatened. More often than not accidents happen because they play to hard. Even my dogs will not hurt others all it takes is a little cry and they stop playing. The only thing I would caution about is the chance of rabbies. Animals may get vacinations but that is no garuntee they will not get it if exposed and since there is no way to tell if the wild animals are carriers until the later stages you alway have to watch for bites and scratches. Having rabies treatments are not fun. I say love all animals equally just be smart about how close you get to them.
