My daughters birthday is September 11th, when ever people ask when her birthday is I always get oh that poor thing, I am so sorry. My question is what is the best thing to say to these people, yes I agree it was a very horrible and sad thing that happened and my daughter turned 3 the day that it happened, but for example we took her to applebees for her birthday and the wait staff brought her an ice cream sundae and sang happy birthday to her, there was this man 2 booths away that said now that was stupid don't they know what today is? I wanted to say something but I kept my mouth shut

Just because it is 9/11, the world doesn't have to stop...Your daughter didn't choose this date..I know how hard it is for some on that day, but your daughter should still celebrate because this is a great day in her life...Some people are just so stupid..Some can't think outside the box and therefore think everyone should be thinking what they are thinking. I am not sure you can say anything that would make a difference...It is a very sad day in history but a very happy day in my childs life...You could say that...Belated happy Birthday to your daughter..

I can't believe the man 2 booths away had the gall to say something so insensitive. As posters before me have said, I would simply say something like, "There were both tragedies and miracles on September 11th, and thankfully, my family had a miracle!"

My brother's birthday is actually September 11th. He just turned 39, people say the same thing, but it's like wait a minute, he was born way before this even happened, why do you say that? People just keep saying it and it makes him feel worse knowing his birthday is on a day when something bad happened. It's not like they could help being born that day before or after it happened.
