Your Ideas To Save Money When Having A Wedding/ Getting Married?

The average Australian wedding apparently costs a couple somewhere in the vicinity of $40,000 nowadays. Personally, I can't justify spending that amount o fmoney on one day, and even if I wanted to, it's well beyond our budget! Just wondering if members had any ideas, tips, advice or hints on how to cut costs when getting married. Maybe you are in the same situation as I am, and planning your own wedding, or perhaps you can speak from past experience. What do you think are the main areas you can safely cut costs in? And where would you reccommend allocating a decent portion of the overall budget? Photography is very important to me, as teh way I see it, at the end of the day and in years to come that will be all that is left of your special day. I'm considering spending 25% of our budget to get a top photographer and a fairly detailed package. Any ways to cut costs here? I'm not plannin gon having a videographer as I would rather use th emoney towards a really good photographer. Looking forward to hashing some ideas, my wedding is just over a year away :)

Ask friends and family to help with pictures of course have the proficinal ones done but you can ask a friend or family member if they would mind videotaping the ceromony/reseption for you. Also you can put disposible cameras out for the people attending the reseption can snap pictures, these usually come out more "realistic" because they are not posed its catching those who your close with being there real selves. LOL which makes for much funner pictures too. Find out who knows how do do things that you can use anyone bake (my dad had a friend make his wedding cake it was the most original cake ever each teir was a different type of cake) anyone who might be able help with decorating or aranging flowers. Ect. Try and use a location if possible that wont cost you like someones property or if someone knows someone with a nice location that might be able to get you a good deal. Also have a family member help with the alteratins because then if last minute adjustments are needed they will be at the wedding. Brides hair and make up IF YOU A FRIEND then use them, make up artists are someti,es a big proplem on wedding day as well as hair dressers they can be rude and you might not like your look, friends will help you feel comfortable with the look, and plus you can have many practice sessions before hand that wont cost you. well hope these are some help. =) good luck

Thanks for some great ideas, I love the idea of putting disposable cameras on the guests tables for the reception. I have done a little bit of research into this and it will probably cost me around $60 to do it, not including the developing of the film, which is alot better than the $450 photographers seem to charge to make their way to the reception :) My fiancee's Uncle is a quite well known baker, and is happy to make our wedding cake, free of charge, as his wedding gift, so I know i am saving money there. I will keep racking my brain for other contacts ;) Thanks alot :)

We did the disposable camera thing and I loved all the pictures because you seen people being themselves not all fake or poiseing like pro photographer pictures sometimes tend to turn out. Also we had 2 friends that did the video of the actual wedding they both turned out great and costed us nothing. So you might think of that too.

My sister has avideo camera so I could borrow that and maybe ask one of our friends to at least tape the ceremony. We are keeping it pretty much immediate family only, an dinviting around 4 of our closest friends. Thanks for the ideas, much appreciated. I have been googling my little heart out, tips and tricks and whatever, and have bought a few ebooks off ebay which Ive found helpful...

My first advice is to not get married. Just don't do it.
