Is It Really The Thought That Counts When It Comes To Presents?

My fiancee's Uncle (and Aunty as I call her) are finally getting married after being together for nineteen years, and three children together. YAY! I'm pretty excited as it's the first wedding I really get to go to and be a guest- I was a bridesmaid at my older sister's wedding and flowergirl at my mum's marriage to my step dad. We are saving for our own wedding, and they are having a small informal wedding, and we were just going to put $50 into a card as their gift, as that way they can use it for whatever they need (after nineteen years you usually have atoaster lmao)... I know most people spend about $100 on gifts, so it made me think, do people really judge you on what you give as a gift, or is it really the thought that counts? I'm not saying that they will be annoyed or anything, I'm just talking generally now... I was also considering photographing thier wedding and getting it made up intoa magazine style photo book which will probably cost about another 50 bucks, but I can pay this later- after the wedding. I know they can't afford a professional photographer, and I'm not exactly qualified but I have had plenty of practice taking pics of my 16 month old son... about 8000 photos on various disks lol... Does that sound like a nice gift idea as well? I'm getting married next year and its somethign I would like if I didnt have aprofessional photographer planned...

I think it's a lovely thought. It's the thought that matters and they can use the money to buy what they need. And you don't have to go over the amount that you can afford. You'd like to do something special for them on their special day. I'm sure they'd appreciate something special (that doesn't cost much) than something expensive that they might not be of any use to them.

My son and I made a photo calendar (with all our favourite pics of him) for my parents. They loved it. A photo book of the wedding sounds like a great idea.

of course it is the thought that counts.... well for me it still is. feel free to give people you know gifts that you think is nice dont give gifts that they think is nice. they will sure love it when it comes from your heart. though tthe picture package you are talking about is kinda cool.

I just thought it was a nice memento of their special day, as well as being practical because they can't afford aphotographer... The photo books that you can create online are amazing. Here in AUstralia, there's this great site snapfish which I use all the time to print off my pictures, and I recently created ap photo book of my son (first year of hi slife) and it came out fantastic.

Hey, First I think the photo idea is a great one - For my parents for christmas last year I put all our photos onto a dvd along with music etc and they were wrapped with it - it was cheap for me to do but they really appreciated it. I do believe it's the thought that counts, particularly if you know someone well enough to know what they truly like (from the smallest of things to the largest) they appreciate you taking the time to put some actual thought into what you're giving them rather than going with the flow and giving something more traditional etc if that makes sense

I had thought of the dvd idea, as my sister in law *soon to be sister in law I should say lol* did one for her grandmother, for her ninetieth birthday. As I am researching photographers for my own wedding at the moment, I couldnt help but notice taht most no longer offer traditional albums, but offer photo books- magazine styel instead, which is where I got the idea. I thought that paying $40 for a photo book, is better than what they charge ($3500 on average). Okay so th eshots may be alittl emore candid and definitely not as good, but at the end of the day its stilla record of their wedding...

Hi there, what's been up to lately buddy? Well, it is really a nice gift and they will be gald and thankful for you if you will do that. I do believe that it is the thought that counts, as for me, yeah it is. It is actually my bday next month of October, and even i don't have any presents, it is really ok, all i want is my family and all my invited guest will come and celebrate with me. In that way, i would be so happy, more happier than having gifts. Have a nice day ahead a happy posting and earning here in Mylot and Godspeed. Kiko

Yes I definately think the thought counts more than anything. I enjoy recieving hand-made cards or sweet/creative things, than more material things from stores, from my friends.
