MLM Programs and Cold Calling

I just thought about something...I have been really bitter about making money online, or the lack of it; however I believe that some of this failure is caused by my own lack of effort. I have 600 tour takers in my current program, (that I stay with because I like the products not the money)and I haven't called not one of them. This is a fear of mine, and an obstacle that i am not sure if I can overcome. Even with the phone scripts and all, I just don't want to make the call. Do you think I would have more success if I called?

I'm with a network marketing company and what I do is put the information out there. People contact me by email first and I email them the basic information on the company and where they can research about the legitamacy of the company and give them my phone number or ask them to let me know if they want me to call them to go further into the information. That way it's not really cold calling because they want the information and I set up a time to speak with them and I only call they if they want me to. I don't call over and over again or push my way through the door. This makes things a lot less stressful on me and I don't feel that anxiety as bad with a business call. I could probably do better if I had called everyone right away and been a bit more forceful but I don't want to be that sort of person. I don't know what you mean by tour takers? I'm guessing that these people's information was just given to you for you to contact and you dont' know if they really are asking for it. If your not comfortable with it it may not be right for you.

Tour Takers are people who have opted to take a tour of my site and get more info about the program.

What's holding you back? Take a few deep breaths. Look at your goals( you do have a list of goals you want to achieve, and what you need to do to accomplish them right!) If you don't have a list, write some up. Be as broad as possible. Then rank them by importance. You may find that some goals are accomplished by doing some others.(ex. become rich, by starting your own business) Then start with the most important goal. List the actions(tasks) that need to be taken to reach that goal. (sorta like a business plan for your life). Rank those by importance. Now start with number 1 and do it. As you go down the list, I'm sure contacting people(possible clients, customers, partners, or investors) will be one of your tasks. When you call or approach a person, ask yourself "What's the worse thing that could happen (they yell, say no,or hang up= NO LOSS), or best case they become interested, join or purchase and you are on your way to successfully achieving your goals.

I guess I'm just afraid of rejection. I just don't like feeling stupid after the fact. I have tried to make a few calls in the past, but the feeling I got afterwards was a feeling of failure. I'd rather just e-mail people, it seems safer for me.

You might have more success if you called. I don't know, I guess it depends on what the program is and how good you are at selling. For a lot of things, I know that I can't or won't do something, and instead of forcing myself to do something, I just go in a different direction. This could be inhibiting my success, but I think most things can be accomplished without a lot of forcing my self to do stuff.

Yea I agree. I find that I do things better when I'm not forcing myself. I'm learning a lot, just by being a member here at mylot, and I realize I need to stick to something I enjoy doing. Thats where passion and motivation stem from.

Pardon my French but cold calling SUCKS! I'm not sure what your program is but have you thought about using your own personal website. Then you can at least either email or mail information to this contact list. I'd say the amount of people who look at your site would be equivalent to the amount that would be interested from a cold call. And all of this without the dreaded rejection. I've used websites to gain income so let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I don't call any of my people or else I would be making 3000 phone calls and who could do that. Instead I have a welcome email that includes My Yahoo IM id so if they want more personal help they can contact me that way. The ones who want help will do so. Let the people come to you, you don't have to go after them. Alicia

I'm in the same position as you but not with "tour takers" - I'm in real estate and sometimes hold back on calling but do send email responses, letters, etc. but hardly ever pick up the phone and make that contact. So although I know where you are coming from - I think calling is the way to go or at least send a welcome email - that's what I do for hits 4 pay after they sign up and then about 3-5 days later I'll send some helpful hints and maybe then like once every 3 months send a general email perhaps about a new program I joined to earn money like mylot, etc.

Cold calling is very, very difficult, I tried it, and stuck with it for many month, way back in the 90's. But in the end I just couldn't take the rejection anymore, I just got worn down. And it's not only the cold calling, once you have a prospect (a person that responds to your cold call) you have, in most cases, to be on top of it and keep calling, keep motivating, and all in the hope that you come across that ephemeral racehorse that wants to run to the finishing line and just needs somebody to show him the way. That's why I like internet marketing, you can present whatever it is to thousands, they take it or they don't.

I know that you will have much more success if you make the calls. I was in an MLM program and every night I sat on the phone for at least 1 hour making calls. Remember that every no you get gets you closer to a yes. If you get a yes, keep going because you will be on a high from the yes and the excitement will show in your voice. If you keep getting no's keep going becasue you will eventually get a yes. I use to set a timer and be on for a certain amount of time each night. You have to be consistent and persistent and you will definitely make money.

Hmm... I think I know what you mean. It is uncomfortable isn't it? :( I was a part of Amway but I've burnt out, because it stressed me too much. Also... the possibility of people getting angry at me was stressy.... plus the meetings... I hated them... :( I guess you know what I mean. Plus most of the MLM programs are NOT free. Now I'm in a 100% free program, and I don't need to sell anybody anything, and that is why I had no problems offering people a free oppurtunity to save and earn. it is US centered. Check out if you are interested: http://www.mypowermall.com/Biz/Home/37474 looking forward to hearing from you, and GOOD LUCK!

I understand what you mean. I think the bitterness comes in because of all the lies told to get you to join the site in the first place. Such as "We do all the work" I mean you know on a deeper level that nothing comes free but you want to believe it so bad that you take the chance only to be hit with with the reality of what you knew in the first place. All I can say is I'm struggling with the same thing. Hey, I will if you will. ; )

In today's world of electronic media you don't need to pick up the phone to make a friend or connect with someone. Just invite them to connect with you on yahoo, mylot, myspace etc. I am sure that they would be more at ease communicating with you by text as well and it will be easier to get them to do the same with their tour takers.
