But besides historical reasons, computers and internet have lot to do with it. When the first computers came out, they were all programmed in english, so if you wanted to use them you had to learn english. The same with internet. There are so many reasons that it's impossible to say them all. And I'm off now... I have to go to my English classes.

and yes English is becoming global too because most educational stuff are written in english rather than the native language, so sometimes natives need to learn english in order to learn the knowledge that's in english books.

English is not my mother tongue, but its one language i love and feel comfortable using. Why English is used all over the world has a lot to do with history and the English sailors colonizing more than half the world at one time or the other. But to take no credits from English, without it you just cant live in this world as almost everything in this world is done in English.

The whole reason could be attributed to history! United Kingdom or Great Britain as you call it was ruling most of the countries in this world. Most of these countries were colonies in the British Kingdom for over 200+ years. As a result English as spread rapidly and become a universally accepted language. So the fact that only 10% have it as there mother tongue doesn't really come into count!

Hi there buddy, what's up? Well, it is because ENGLISH is considered as the UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE. And most of the nations in this World are using the language English as their secondary languages and some nations have it as their primary language. And the thing is, all of us already USED to it. We've been using the Language ENGLISH has been using all over the World ever since, and there's nothing wrong with that i think if English is Dominating the World. Have a nice day ahead, happy posting and earning here in Mylot. Godspeed, Kiko

English have been dominating language across the globe. main reason behing this is that the britishers have maximum number of colonies across the world during the industrial revolution. so the population of their colonies came to learn english which in turn make english to be the most dominating language in the world

This is because English is our universal language, that's how we communicate with other countries. Imagine if all the countries don't have one language that is not the same, how can they understand both countries? it would be hard for our economy, importation, exportation, government and more to function as it was now. So it really helps to have one universal language that would be understood by all the countries and that is the "English" language! :)

basically it's because they (Americans more so than British i think) keep spreading the word about the English language as world domination or something. Look at their movies. Some movies spread the word of making English as the world language. So of course people who watch those movies would get the idea. At least that's what i think. It is somewhat depressing because English speakers should learn the language of the country they're going to or are currently in instead of the natives learning English for them. That's not very polite of people who think that way. If you're the foreigner, I say go learn the language of the country before embarking on that journey. ^_^
