Do you mind when someone posts a topic that is similar to one you've started? What if it's an old post, say 5 or 6 months? I've seen once or twice where there are two posts that are completely identical with/without the same pic added by two different posters, making me think someone ripped it from the other. I've also had ppl tell me that they were just thinking of starting a certain post and then saw mine. I don't think I'd mine if someone started one on the same topic as one of mine (especially an old one) as long as they put it in their own words and didn't rip it right from mine. I think alot of ppl have the same general thoughts so it's normal that 2 ppl might think of the same topic. Do you get upset when you see someone posting the same topic as you? Do you tell them about it or just go on? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I've accidentally posted on the same topic as someone else, even though I searched the site to make sure it didn't happen. I ended up going to the member and apologizing just to make sure there were no hard feelings. I don't mind if someone posts the same thing as me, but like you I don't want them to rip it word for word and try to make it their own. That's just plain rude.

Well with this many people it is bound to happen on occasion, as you said you did not copy someone it just happened and that is understandable...Sometimes you can tell it is deliberate though....

It bothers me a lot. Because before I post a discussion I search mylot for similar discussions. I always want to be sure that I'm starting an original discussion and/or adding something different to it. So it bugs me that other people don't do the same thing. It's not really that hard to search mylot as there's a big "search" button at the top of the screen. Not to mention as with a few other things, it's a rule that you shouldn't do the repeat thing. with all the discussions you might think that's a tough thing, but you can make it different or at least try.

raychill, I apologize, I haven't done this...I will from now on. I think the majority of mine are different, at least in perspective...not exactly the same as others. However I will use the search button!

I've read the guidelines too, I guess I tend to think that although a some of my titles may be similiar I think my actual discussions or most of them have unique angles and perpsectives although perhaps one or two have been similiar to others.

No need to apologize. I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't use this. It's just that I don't k now, I guess I'm weird and I read the Mylot guidelines and obeyed them unlike all the other rule breakers out there!!! Just kidding :p

Because I forget to check if the question is already on here, I have sometimes repeated a topic. I agree with you, if it's not worded exactly the same as the others then it's going to happen because, as you say, many people share similar interests and thoughts.

I posted something and afterwards used the search function to find the answer quicker. I know I did it backwards :( Sure enough, someone had posted a similar question and had a response. So unless I'm posting something about my life, relationship or things along those lines, I'll be doing a search first.

I don't mind it at all because not everyone is on everyone's friends list and may miss the discussion. And the missed person's response might be the one that hits the nail on the head. Besides, the old need refreshing from time to time so I say go for it as long as it's not a copy and paste of the same exact wording so it won't offend anybody.

yea..even i have seen many topics repeating here in mylot but i dont keep posting in the same topic..! even if yu believe it or not.i have started one topic that wht inspires yu the most..after i created one forum i found that there are many such topics there..i am really telling that i dint know that such topics exist in mylot..so wht i feel is people will simply start their forums and might find it later that theya re already existing in mylot..but i have also seen one forum in shich one girl has stated that her topic is being stolen by someone and that person has simply copied and pasted..well, that is offensive, we should not simply copy other's forum but of course similar topics can be started coz people might have same interests n preferences..so i dont find anything wrong in it..!

I dont mind it if its not posted on the same day as me, but few days ago I searched every posible word on the subject I wanted to write about and found nothing simmilar and I posted my discussion and few hours later 2 or 3 discussions almost the same as mine came up (writen the same day as mine) well it wasnt a subject that is everyday thing it was clear to me that the person got the idea of me but at least they could have waited few days and not be so obvius.

Well, I don't mind if it's happen like that. Maybe the person who post the same topic didn't do it in a purpose. So, he didn't research first, just post what is on their mind at time. Than probably they will realize lately after they post the discussion that there was somebody already posted a same topic before, or even long time ago.

No I don't mind. Personally I don't think the search facility on here is that great anyway. I've searched before I've started discussions, not got a result, and then as soon as I've posted it a very similar discussion appears at the bottom of the screen. Plus with all these users it's tough to think of a topic that absolutely no-one has done before. It would annoy me if it was an exact copy of one of mine, then I would possibly say something, but otherwise I wouldn't mind. Actually it's happened to me quite a few times anyway.

I wouldn't like anyone copying my topic but there are only so many things people can topic about I guess, but to copy someones topic completely is a bit rude I think.

I don't mind if discussions are posted repeatedly. I am more of a respondent to different discussions. We can't blame fellow mylotters to post what they have in mind and interests. If we post only once on different subjects maybe we don't have many topics to discuss and it will be boring. The more the merrier, the more exciting the site is.

It doesn't bother me, twoey, unless it was a recent post I did and the words are almost identical. I know that some do rip off your posts, and it should really be reported. I usually spend a bit of time in composing my posts and put a lot of effort into them. It isn't flattering to have your work ripped off. That is why I wrote to myLot a couple of months ago requesting that they add a clock so everyone would know exactly the date and time of their post in case it got ripped off. It's a very unfair practice to everyone.

Be warned there are several mylot users who steal, word for word - posts from here and put it on other chats like morachat. Its been done to mine. They do that and steal from articles word for word. I found others easily as their is a distinct difference between their two or three line posts written in poor english, full of the same misspellings each time and poor grammer and nothing of substance to say - then these other posts in a totally other voice, excellent command of English and none of the repeated mistakes that litter their other posts.
