Have any of you heard about this? My roomie told me about it yesterday morning & I found this video: http://video.aol.com/video/news-meteorite-crash-causes-mysterious-illness/1972225 You know, I've heard speculation that the common cold might've also been from space since there were no records of them before a certain time. Humm, wonder if a meteorite landed in Africa and is the cause of AIDs?

Yes I read about it yesterday. It is very strange. But there are so many things out there that we just don't know about or begin to understand. I'm not sure about the AIDS theory, but all these viruse must come from somewhere.

yeah, rosie, it is true that these illnesses must have been triggered somehow by some occurrences. it is only too bad to be thinking that some of these illnesses might have entered into our planet through this way. this is definitely a way which is beyond any man's control. makes me feel kind of being too helpless to help myself up in keeping in good shape. it must be unfair for mankind to be suffering from illnesses which has been introduced from space just like that. all of us will be caught unprepared for its sudden incoming. everyone can just imagine the kind of health havoc that an item can cause if it is so toxic or anything along the line of causing major health risks.

I think this metorite may be radio active that is why people are getting sick. That is my theory. I could be wrong I am not a scientist I am a nurse and have heard of things like this before.

That was a first thought, but since people are getting sick so quickly, it may not be. Could have either penitated some gas pocket in the ground, or be just be emitting some kind of gas itself from the atmosphere entry. Weird!

hi elic, yeah, there is a possibility that the meteorite could have caused some mysterious illness. it is a foreirgn object which has crashed into our planet. it is something which does not belong to this planet in the first place and thus have altered some of the environment's natural ambiance. i hope that what i am saying here has some sense. until now, i feel like i am still in some kind of limbo of sorts. i choose to believe though that AIDs was not caused by any meteorite but by man's own wrongdoings himself. i still find it to be unjustifiable to be punished for an occurrence which is beyond our control. i will look into that video clip though from here as you have cited it in your discussion.

It is known that AIDs is related to, started, and is most prevalent in ares of Africa that the "green Monkey disease" is in. It is considered that it was spread to humans by the capture & eatting of monkey meat. Viruses, by their very nature, mutate quickly, which is why they have to select the ones they expect to become the bad ones and we receive new flu shots every year. Cold viruses also mutate, you actually never catch the same cold twice, its a new virus every time.

Well, as far as where viruses come from, it could be the same place that we're from (whatever your beliefs have to say about that) but it is possible for viruses to cross species boundaries during mutations. As for a meteorite making people sick mysteriously, the first thing I'd look into would be the meteorite being radioactive. If there's a virus here that can withstand the conditions of deep space, we're in trouble, as it would be likely that many of our sanitation procedures would be useless against it.
