Setting Goals in Life

I'm pretty sure that everyone has set goals that they would like to achieve in life. I really am the type of person who hates to quit. Some of the goals I set for myself I have achieved; others, I abandoned. What I would like to know is: If you have abandoned any goal in your life, what made you know that it was time to quit? Also, do you think a person should ever abandon their goals?

Sometimes we all have to abandon our goals - or drive ourself into an early grave trying! I used to set myself lots of goals but nowadays as long as we have a roof over our head, clothes on our back and food in our belly and my kids are doing well I am content! The only goal I have abandoned that I can think of is to go to University and train as a teacher - I had my daughter instead and then we found that it was just impossible financially! Never mind - when I am well I am still qualified to work in a nursery school and I would love to go back to that! xxx

You have a very realistic outlook, mummymo. We do not set goals with the intention of not fulfilling them, sometimes it just works out that way. That is no reason to feel that we have failed. Peace of mind and contentment should remain uppermost in our minds.

A person should never abandon their goals if they are attainable. However, some goals we must quit due to ill health, or other circumstances beyond our control.

That's a very true philosophy, naty. Sometimes in life we must take a detour or give up a pursuit due to unforeseen occurrences.

Setting goals is a good habit.BUT we need to work hard for fulfiling that goal .Determination and clear vision of what to do in acheiving r important.

Yes I have 5 years ago and I think it is ok for People to do that because Circumstances will stop them to reach those Goals and there is nothing the Person can do about it I have achieved a few and that is what matters but I know that I will never achieve the rest so they had to go

I have one major goal in which many others revolve around. I have constantly failed at every attempt to make my (these)ideals come true. But, no matter what, I find a way to persist. That is the only way anything of great value can become a part of our experiences. Not to ever quit, as long as the goal or vision has true meaning for you. Read the article by James Allen from long ago...As a Man Thinketh. It can be found for free on the Internet. It is extremely valuable , inspirational and truth beyond what we normally run across day to day.
