I would most certainly be interested in those croatian recipes of your grandma's. I love to learn new styles of cooking and your right olive oil is much healthier than regular cooking oil. I tend to use it more often as well.

WE use a lot of olive when cooking. I have noticed that we feel much better than when we mainly cooked with butter and other fats. I'm going to go check out your recipes.

I love Mediterranean food and prepare many meals using olive oil. When the weather is dark and cold it is easy to want to eat more meat and bread and not so many vegetables, so I have always made a special effort to keep my family's meals nutritious. Until recently it was hard to find affordable good quality olive oil at a reasonable price, but now we are beginning to see small bottles in the dollar stores! This makes me so happy. If you don't mind, though, I would be interested in knowing how you recommend storing the olive oil. I live in a hot dry climate, but have to go away from home for months at a time. If I have opened a bottle of olive oil before we go and cannot take it along, should I throw it away and buy new when we come back, or is it OK to store it on the shelf? What is the best way to store it? How can I tell if it has gone bad? These questions may seem very silly to you, but I really do not know the answers. Please explain, if you don't mind.

What a nice response! I live in the US or I would take you up on that offer. Yes, I buy the best available cold-pressed virgin olive oil that is available and keep it in glass in the dark. However, about 27C is as low as I can keep the temperature while we are gone and we are away for several months. Do you think it will be safe to use when we come back each summer? Your blog is beautiful!

Hello aaidjs, A few years ago, I used vegetable oil in all my cooking. Now for the last 6 years I use only olive oil, and I have noticed a decrease in my blood pressure. I use oil very sparingly in everything I cook, but I am a firm believer in olive oil is good for you. I woould be very interested in you blog. Happy posting.

We grew up using safflower and corn oil, but in the last few years, my husband and I have been using olive oil for cooking. I also have a salad with every main meal, and my blood pressure has been normal. In fact, the only time it was up was when I was worried about a blood pressure best. I will look at your blog. I am very interested in cooking.

the only times I do not use olive oil is when I use it to make french fries or any fried stuff. Other than that I always use olive oil. I use it to cook and to dress my salads :) WHen I came to Canada I realized that many people didn't even know what olive oil is. I was surprised. There are many reports that indicate the usefulness of olive oil and how much healthier it is. I worked at a cardiology clinic when I came to here and they also suggested to their patients to use olive oil.

I hardy ever cook with olive oil mainly because I am used to sunflower oil and the taste of the sunflower oil but also because I am not used to the rich taste of the olive oil. In some dishes that I make if I put olive oil than the rich taste takes over the other ingridients that I put in. But I do use it with bbq and sprinkle some on bread when I bake it on the bbq.
