Yes, dogs are quite good on sniffing. They have their sense very high, much better than humans. And it's not just the smell they can feel, they can also hear way better than us. If I'm not mistaken, Humans can hear 25Hz, while dogs can 50Hz. I am not sure if it's that, I might be talking rubbish, but dogs do hear better and smell more than humans.
I don't know why it happens. I just know they do, and they do it very well. That's why they are used by Policemen. And, hey, let's not forget dogs have a great disadvantage, compared to humans: they can barely see. They see black and white only, and in a small range.

I really do not know how the dogs can smell and identify, in case of police dogs how it catches the criminals?

That is amazing, they train Dogs to do that. dogs are so smart. they can smell things a mile away. and they do help fight crime. That is why they call them Police Dogs.

I really don't know that is a good question, they certainly have a keen sense of smell I guess that is part of their calling. like a person has talet, God bless dogs to have a keen sense of smell.
