Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it should be illegal to talk on cell phone and drive at the same time?!?! I mean what could be so important that you need to risk your life and the life of others? How hard is it to pull over and talk if the call cant wait? I refuse to talk on the phone to anyone who is driving and calling me. I will tell them to call me back when they are not driving. Wouldn't I just feel like crap if I was on the phone with them and they got into an accident. Does anyone else share my opinion?

As long as they use the hands free set, I see no problem, it is no different than listening to the radio. I do not think that they should try to dial or hold the phone and drive. I do not use mine while driving.

I don't know what if they get into a argument and get distracted?

That could happen with a passenger as well. ;)

In South Africa it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving, however many people still do it. If at any time I am travelling in a car with some else driving, I always warn them not to talk on their cell phone, not just because its against the law but also because I know it is extremely dangerous, and it grates on my nerves.

No you are not the only one and this is becoming one of the major causes of road-accident world-wide. And what’s more infuriating is that people who do this, are not only breaking the law and risking other lives, they also display an arrogantly pompous look on their face, as if by stopping their car and pulling them up, you are actually wasting their ‘precious time’! how thick and self-important some people can be!! I dislike such people and I firmly believe that they are ill-mannered, selfish snobs who should be confided to their own egocentric world. they are not fit for social interaction on community roads. There are many people I know (very busy people), who always make it a point to tell in advance that they never answer their cells when they are driving, so if I find that the cell is just ringing, I should understand and try later or maybe the person will call me back. This is the attitude that is expected from responsible citizens. And if you cant control the urge to answer, or if you know some emergency is going on, you can very well pull up to the curb and answer in peace!

It is illegal in NYS to drive and talk on your cell phone- well not entirely—You have to have a hands free phone- in order to chat- I think we should do one better and have no texting when driving either- just to be safe- I have seen a lot of people drive crazy when they are chatting- CRAZY!

I agree with you. It drives me crazy too. I actually don't mind if they are using a hands free kit because then they can keep both hands on the steering wheel. I think its the holding the phone itself that generally causes the problem. Talking to someone on the phone is no more distracting than listening to the radio as long as you are doing it responsibly.

In Europe where I live this time, using cell phone while driving is prohibited. So if the police catch you when you do that you really will have a problem. Sometimes, in the end you even need to pay quite a lot money for that since you brake the rule or regulation. But in my country where I lived before, there is no regulation about that yet so I saw a lot of people using theri cell phone while they are driving their car. Some even do sending sms or typing sms while driving which is quite dangerous in my opinion. Don't you think so?

i hate people who do that... it is so irresponsible... you are right... those drivers are risking their own lives and other people's lives... fortunately, we have quite a strict rule here in australia... if you are caught driving while talking on the phone, you will straight away got a heavy fine and 3 demerit points off your license (i think so...) :-) i always tell my hubby not to talk on the phone while driving... it is way too dangerous...

I am the same way, I think people should not use the phone in their cars. There are to many young kids that are now driving and when they are on their cell phones they really dont pay attaion to what they are doing, on the phone and some have the radio turned up it is a accident waiting to happen.

Ah yes. I have seen so many people doing all this. They come to a stop sign and sit there. They drive through parking lots without looking. If you honk at them they look at you like you are crazy. I know someone who not only talks on the phone but texts too. Jeez! I hate to talk on the phone in the car. How does anyone hear? To me there is too much distraction. I either dont answer the phone or pull into a parking lot if I have to talk on the phone.

No your not the only one that thinks it. I completely agree with everything that you have said here. I think its completely irresponsible to talk on your phone or do anything else for that matter while your driving. I dont think anything is important enough for you to risk your life along with someone elses. A lot of states are not making it illegal. I know they are passing it here very soon. And i think its a great idea.

I think it's so irresponsible to use your cellphone while driving, that's why i'm so glad it's illegal in the uk now. If a call is so important it has to be made then pull over! Or if you need to speak to someone who's calling, pull up and ring them back!!

I totally agree with you. It drives me crazy when people drive while talking on the cellphone. I know that if my cellphone rings while I'm driving I don't answer it. If it's so important they'll leave a message. And if they don't understand, oh well.... Anyway, I drive a manual transmission car, so I need both hands to drive. And here in St. Louis, you're always stuck in traffic... About 8 years ago, I was on my way home from a walk and was actually hit (I was walking across the street) by a car. The driver was talking on the phone. Luckily I had taken a half step back, but my foot did get run over and my knee bumped. Thank goodness for steel-toed shoes. The idiot didn't stop either. When my insurance company called to verify the report it took about 20 minutes for them to understand that I wasn't in my car when I got hit. They kept telling me my car wasn't covered and that I needed to call my car insurance company. I kept saying no you don't understand, I was hit when I was on a walk. The girls I worked with were in the background laughing so hard. Anyway, I think in some states it's illegal to drive with a cellphone. I think New York is one of them...

it is illegal in some states. it is illegal where i live. however, i have never seen anyone pulled over for it. instead, they would charge you with a crime if an accident occurred and they could prove you were on your phone.

In DK its eligal to talk on the phone while driving, and gives a heavy fine if youre caught. Only things that legal is to use a handsfree phone while youre driving. All my friends and family knows that when they take me for a ride, they dont get to talk on the phone, and they dont get to handle radio, or drive fast. Ive already been in two car accidents because the driver wasnt paying attention. If they want something done that takes their attention away from teh road, they can ask me. It really irritates my brother that I dont want to let him drive fast, but honestly, I dont care if he gets to where he wants 4 minutes faster that way. I just dont want to be in the car if he drives fast.

I find this situation to be one of my pet peeves. I hate it when I see people talking on their cell phones while driving. Especially when I find them doing something like swerving all over the road or driving too slow. I will not talk on the cell while driving.

Hi there. Here in New Zealand its illegal to talk on your phone whilst driving at the same time... Im quiet glad that this is a law, drivers are required to pull over and use there phones, for the safety of themselves as well as other drivers or pedestrians, road users... But there have been times when Ive seen a few people using there phones and driving and seeing this really gets up my nose, its really annoying and selfish of them...

Quoted for truth! People like this shouldn't even be allowed to drive. All to often I see the worse driving by people who have their head stuck to a cellphone! Take it from me, a lot of people are terrible at driving. Give them a cellphone and they are far worse than that default!
