College Day

United States
September 24, 2007 4:30pm CST
As a college coordinator for a small Christian High School, one of my jobs is to schedule days that I take the young people to various colleges around our state. In October, I am taking a group to my alma mater. I'm looking forward to going back to Arkadelphia, visiting Ouachita Baptist University and walking the sidewalks again! There are even some of my old professors who are still teaching that I'm planning to look up. Have you been back to a reunion or campus visit at your college or high school since you left or graduated?

I went to a small catholic high school for a couple of years & the class behind me held a school wide (all the years) reunion. That was great fun. I didn't get to see some people, probably couldn't find them, but it was good to see the ones that were there. I've also gone to a couple of the high school I actually graduated from, those weren't nearly as much fun.

I left when the dancing started. The organizers are still mad that the prom was cancelled due to lack of interest back in high school. And its been 35 years & I doubt there was anything - except for most of those few we still aren't that interested.

No. I missed the 10 year high school reunion. I'm glad I did...because evidently it turned into a drunken brawl. This year, it was 21. Several of us just met for dinner with our families before the homecoming football game. Much better.

I never went to reunion. I was always afraid to because of all the successful people, when I certainly was not.

You know what I found out at the one I went to last year? That most of the people who were the "big men on campus" during high schools were old, bald and fat! I had more fun with people that I never talked to in high school because they thought they were better than everyone else. Don't seel yourself short. YOu are successful in your own right and money is not everything.

I live three houses from my Alma Mater. I fell in love with the town and came back to live when my hubby got out of the Navy. My classmates, many of them, are now the professors. LOL.

That's awesome. I still keep in touch with several of my classmates as well. I actually reconnected with one a couple of months ago while my son was showing me something on facebook. He had connected with a young man that he'd met at church camp that was from massachusetts. He noticed that this boys mother was from Arkansas. We did the research, and found that not only was she from the same state...but we'd gone to college together. Small world.

First allow me to commend you on being able to handle a job of this magnitude! That is probably alot of teenagers! I have obviously never gone back for a high school reunion of any sort, since I chose to obtain a GED rather than graduate, and now I see some of the things in my life that are missing, and I have regrets. However, I am sure your alma mater wll be thrilled not only to see you again, but to see that you are bringing in prospective students.

There are 5 of the kids signed up. It is the day of our football homecoming game and several don't want to miss the pep rally and festivities. There will be other trips. I love taking the seniors places. We have three other trips planned in the next few months.
