First of all I can't copy and paste until I have a rating greater than 500..... who has a rating greater than 500! is that even possible? Well, here's the real issue: last year, I signed up for BMG Music site without even knowing, it was one of those things where you sign up for a free IPOD and you fill out offers until you reach the end. I didn't have a credit card so I never reached the end, but I had still signed up for BMG without even knowing that they're crazy. I put in my favorite Cds on there and they actually sent me one for free, I just had to pay $2.45 for shipping and handling so I sent my parents' check for it. All of a sudden, I kept getting CDs every two months that I didn't even request. I tried to cancel my account and that didn't work. So now, they've got some "North Shore Agency, Inc" writing me and labeling my Account:Delinquent. What now? I don't have a bank account; no credit card All that have is my name, unfortunately, and my address (which I can change any other day... but I don't want to take my chances). What happens now? I seriously don't have an extra $40 hanging around, I have to pay $5000 for college and stuff and it's really hard for me to just gather up $40... I can't even mail them cash! I mean, why do you think I'm on MyLot? I need money! If I don't pay, will I be screwed for life?

You fell for one of the most popular scams on the internet. Don't feel bad, I have fallen for it too. If I were you, I would not worry about it right now. You can take care of that when you do get the money. You do not need a 500 rating. You need 500 posts. Right now, you are at 205, keep working, you will make it. Focus on going to college, learning and having a good time. If you are afraid that this will affect your parents in any way, let them know that you used their check. Other than that, I wouldn't worry to much.

thank you for the reassurance. i'm just really afraid of having a bad label to my name or something! i don't know how the world works yet, and i'm almost afraid to find out! i would get my parents to pay for it, only thing is, we have no money!! my dad lost his job and my mom started taking night shifts to get some money. they're currently cleaning out their savings account to pay for the regular bills so they can't afford to take out extra money for stuff. i have to use fee waivers for most of my college applications (thank God for those!!) so $40 is a lot here..... well for me. last year, i didn't know much about the internet... but this year, my eyes are open and i know now, not to sign up for random stuff!! i sure learned my lesson! and thanks for the 500 post tip.... and they do know i used their check, i hope i didn't make it sound like i used it without their permission!! ;) i'll try not to worry too much..... i typed up "North Shore Agency, Inc" online and they've been sued and filed against for billing people that never signed up for stuff etc.....

How frustrating. I've fallen for things like this before, it's really easy for one of these scams to slip past your radar. Send them back the CDs, as well as a letter by registered mail (the letter, not necessarily the CDs), and keep the slips as well as a copy of the letter explaining that you never signed up to receive these. I don't think they can really do anything to you, but you might want to get a copy of your free credit report. If they are on it, you might need to challenge it. I wouldn't send them any money.

Free offers like the one you mentioned are so horrible. I had to cancel one of my main email accounts because I didn't realize what I was doing when I also tried to obtain a "free" I-Pod. I think the lesson learned from that is never try those bogus things! I know what you mean about your money issues. I'm going through the same thing right now. Credit is so evil, but it seems like we have to put ourselves in debt to survive. School is costing me an arm and a leg, and my cat just got really sick. I had to pay 1,000 dollars tonight so he wouldn't die. I couldn't let him suffer so I charged it. :( I think that the bill you are being charged can effect your credit in a bad way. I would try calling them and seeing if there is anything they can do. Let them know you didn't agree to what they did, and you are upset with the charges. Maybe they can wave it for you or something. I had to deal with that kind of issue with a magazine company and they refunded me my money. Good luck with it, but I wouldn't ignore it because those jerks can mess up your credit for things in the future.

There isn't really too much they can do to you. Just make sure they don't have your parents bank information, this way they can't just deduct it from their account...I have a couple of book clubs that say I owe them but I don't...I think everything will work out for you...

I don't know if they kept any bank information because I did send them a check one time. But if they were allowed to just take money out of the bank I think they would have done that already. Phewee...!

You do need to get this resolved, you need to get the 40 dollars (ask your parents) and pay it, then speak to their customer service and insist that your account there be turned off. Otherwise they will submit your name and information to the Credit Bureau and your credit score will be hurt by this. They may have already filed a bad credit report so you need to just ask someone for 40 dollars.

Its very possible that they can add it to your report if you are still considered to have defaulted on payments and owe them money.

Send the CDs back with the packett unopened, and email them you dont want to be a member, and never did. If they dont agree to stop the shenanigans in my country it would be their loss, not yours. Ive had many many weird things sent to me unwanted, and usually they try to bully you into paying by sending a flood of bills. But if youre persistant they will learn and will cease in the end. I had to learn the hard way really. Some doofus didnt like me and signed me up for tons of items from some magazine and I fought them for a while, finally just giving up and then threw out their letters and bills when they kept sending them, sent all items back without opening anything... at recievers costs WITH package stamp extra charge for being understamped for return journey. In the end they ceased to try and just stopped.
