i work with alot of animals and have had many dogs come in that have been so badly abused its taken months for them to trust and not bite asd they were badly beaten and ive had dogs that have come in that were continuously bred almost to death , why dont people treat animals like they are family and have them indoors and around people and socialized not tied up on a chain not socialized and beaten or bred constantly , it is so sad i wish people would stop , would love to hear other peoples opinions on this

Hi, I also work with animals. There are many forms of abuse out there, some of the abuse is unintentional neglect and in many of these situations, you can attempt to educate the subject on proper pet care. Quite often it is just plain ignorance and lack of common sense. There are many resources available from the Humane Society to assist in educating the public on proper pet care. There is also info available to help the public recognize abuse and report it to the proper authorities. In the cases of intentional abuse/cruelty, there is usually an unlying problem and in many situations other forms of abuse happening in the home and maybe they are being treated like family who may also be suffering from abuse. Unfortunatley animals cannot speak out and need caring people such as yourself to be their voice. It does take time, patience and love to help a animal victims to recover from an abusive situation. Just don't get discouraged and lose hope, the animals need you to keep being there to comfort them and help them heal. Good Luck and God Bless

Just keep on caring and doing what you do. I am an Animal control officer and have been for almost 16 yrs. There have been many times where I felt that I just couldn't do it anymore. I get tired of being responsible for irresponsible people, but then I look into the eyes of our animals and keep plugging away. We use rescue groups and foster, thank God for them. Our pets have a much better chance of finding a permanent loving home through the fosters that in the shelter environment. We do the best we can but sometimes there is not enough time to socialize all of the animals that we receive. Keep up the good work.

Animals are easy to abuse because they are kind and loving. They cannot complain since they don't how to speak for themselves. But animals have instincts they will fight back also when they are threatened. Try kicking a dog he will bite you. Sad to say that my dog is tied up so I really feel sorry for him. My mother wants him tied because there are small children in our house and that they might get bitten. We also lived near a busy street so if we cut him loose he might get out of the street and bite someone or he might get smashed by automobiles. I think his better tied up than smashed. Those who abuse animals are maybe psychopath so don't wonder. Whoof!

not all dogs bite i foster alot of dogs and after months of working with them by the time a dog has left my house they have been well socialized with my to young children and they have never bit , it is all in how u raise your dog, socialize it and how much u work with the dog, dogs can also be retrained , its just how much time and love u put into them . ps i would never try to kick a dog that is abuse, it is common sense a animal defends itself just like ppl do

Hi, I don't think anyone would suggest that you "cut him loose", but you could take him for frequent walks on a leash and maybe to a park to play. Also have you considered fencing in your yard or maybe building him a kennel, rather than keeping him tethered? Did you know that dogs kept on chains tend to have more aggressive tendencies? I also live near a busy highway, I have four dogs and we walk them on leashes. I have kennels for 3 of my dogs while I am at work and we are lucky enough in our community to have a park, fenced in with a gate where we can take them to play. I know that not everyone has these options, but you really should see if you can figure out a way to UNCHAIN your dog NOT CUT HIM LOOSE. Thanks

Oh it breaks my heart to hear of any cruelty to animals, I don't understand how people can do things to animalsm don't they realize they feel pain too, do unto others means all creatures as well as humans, I think people should be punished as if they have inflicted the same on a human.

It honestly breaks my heart anytime I hear of an animal that has been abused. Animals are such beautiful things, and I love them very much. I think the saying "Do unto others as you'd have done to you" also means creatures big and small as well, and if it doesn't it should!

i remember a story awhile back about a mommy kat that had six kittens she gave birth to her kittens in a warehouse one day the warehouse caught on fire and the mommy kat was still in the warehouse with her kittens the mommy kat came out of the warehouse with one of her kittens in her mouth she crossed the street looking for a safe place to leave her kittens in , she went back to get the remaining 5 mommy kat suffered burns to her face and her body she was well except for the burns her kittens had no burns they came out safely , my point is that we have fathers and mothers that abandoned there babies, they kill there children ,now who would you call an animal. so people please don't abuse animals because some humans are more animals then they are.

I don't understand it either, if people are going to abuse their pets, why have pets? It's so mean, I hate people who abuse animals.

I have no idea what those people that abuse animals are thinking. It is horribly sad. My boyfriend's family runs a rescue for basset hounds and there are plently of dogs which come to us abused and neglected. The family adopted one of the worst cases themselves and he's doing nicely. He still has his moments, but mainly if hes disturbed by something. My boyfriend owns a abused dog. Hes come a long way. Hes still wary at times but he doesn't bite anymore and is VERY protective and loving of his owner. I haven't "officialy" adopted him yet but I've already claimed a red and white male. He was abused and was going to be put to sleep because of the issue with biteing. The rescue decided to work with him instead. Probally about half a year after he came into the program (he was making very good progress) he took a liking to me and started following me around and getting excited everytime I would pay attention to him. He is the perfect example of what a little love can do for a dog. He now absolutly LOVES people and attention. He'll roll over on his back at the slightest look for a belly rub. A little while ago I took him out to Pet Co with me. All the little children wanted to pet him. He just rolled over and could have just stayed there forever with all those hands petting him. Dogs arn't normaly born mean, their turned that way by bad treatment. Most of them can be turned around into the best of pets. Those are some of the most rewarding pets.
