My Cup (Holder) Runneth Over

My mom is having tests done today. Around 6am I got up to go see her before she left. I had purchased some sweet tarts for her as a good luck thing, and I wanted to make it over there before she and my dad left. But on my way I decided to stop at Sonic for breakfast (my dad had given me five dollars the day prior), I ordered, the food was delivered to my car, and they went back inside. As I was pulling out, I lifted the cup to take a drink, and realized my entire cup holder (2 of them) was full of the beverage I was drinking. I put the car in park, moved the drink over the console, into the area by my feet, and out of the car to the ground. I didn't want to pull it over me and get wet and sticky. After I got their attention one of the men came out and asked, "Is there a hole in that cup?" OK, I hadn't said a word about a hole, yet he knew. So he brought napkins, saw my car and went to get more napkins, told me to have a nice day and went inside. To top it off, when I was almost to my parents, I realized they gave me the wrong food. I DID call and talk to their general manager (he happened to be there today) and told him I didn't intend to ask them to pay to clean the car (and the front part will have to be cleaned), but I was not happy that they still charged me for the meal, and offered no apology. And I was truly nice when talking to them. GRUDGINLY, he told me to come by tomorrow morning and he would give me a free breakfast. OK, he didn't even give the right breakfast today, so I feel like I'm still paying. And I can't explain to you how the cup holder overflowed, and...yuck. So when it gets right down to it, has there ever been a bad clash between food and your car? Someone ever handed you a drink, and the lid wasn't completely on it? Yep, me too...

Me too. But who ever thinks to check the bottom of the cup for a hole? But if anyone did it, I would bet it would be you. You're thorough! : )

I don't check for holes but while I am holding the cup and drinking, it if begins to get more wet than normal....I get a bit paranoid and get tissues and put them under the cup. I think it is my OCD. No normal person like yourself would think like this :)

Actually, it wasn't a leak, LOL. I'm completely serious, I lifted the cup and my cup holder was completely full of the drink. It was a really big hole, LOL.

Hi AmbiePam, Yes, I have had things like that happen where either the lid isn't on properly or I open a bottle of Dr.Pepper and it explodes and goes everywhere! I can see the Managers point of offering you a free breakfast, but I can also see your point about still paying for their mistakes! I am so sorry to hear that your day got off to a crummy start, and I hope your day gets better. Love & Hugzz.

Thanks, it has gotten a little better. The thing is, I had to ask the manager for the free breakfast. That's sad, LOL.

That is sad, VERY sad. Usually if a business makes a mistake that is the first thing that they offer to you. Glad to hear your day got better. Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear ;)

Actually, I would rather focus on Sonic in my response. It used to be a favorite place of mine, but they cannot seem to keep good management, and they sure had problems this weekend. I will not go back for a very long time. If you knew you had company coming, you would order enough food, and get people to help you out, if it was going to be a lot of people, right? Sonic, in my town, had a wonderful weekend opportunity. We had the Scottish Festival, Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. Lots of people from all over, including foreign countries, like Norway, and Canada, and Scotland, and Germany, and Japan--you get the picture. On Saturday, we also had the museum festival. That attracts lots of people too. Sonic is the one fast food place that was within walking distance from the Festival venues. I sat on Saturday, and watched them mess up order after order at the walk up and at the drive up, including ours. Wrong foods, wrong charges, no lime in the cherry limeade, no toy in the kids' meal. They sent out coupons the week before these festivals for various and assorted things. We decided to give them another chance Sunday, got ready to order and the music was so loud, they could not hear my husband. He had to YELL. Then, what we wanted, was completely out. It will be a long time before we go back again, and it sounds a lot like Sonic is really going down hill. Like I said, it will be a long time before we go back.

How rude of me not to ask about your mom, though. Is she being tested for something serious. You are really a good daughter to be so close and helpful. I hope all is well in that aspect. Have a more wonderful evening.

Thanks for your concern. I won't lie, things aren't good. I don't know what they are testing for, but it is an EEG and an MRI. She's had them before, and I've had them before, and it's like a repeat. The Sonic I went to today is close to my house, but I don't often visit. The one close to my parents is generally OK. But goodness, the Sonic near you were fully aware of the upcoming events, how could they not be ready?

Hubby loves to stop at Sonic for diet cokes on the way home. But, even though he goes every day, and many of them know exactly what he is going to order, we still get wrong orders. He likes his diet coke with lime and I like mine plain. Sometimes we'll get both with lime. The worst thing they do is sometimes I'll get real coke. I think that is the worst thing, and so irresponsible! My husband is diabetic and certainly wouldn't need all of that sugar! and I can't stand drinking all of that sugar! It really irks us when that happens. Even though Sonic is just up the street around the corner, it's a pain to have to return something!

It IS a pain. I finally got my free meal, but when they brought it out, it was wrong. So I asked them to fix it and they went back, only to return 30 minutes later with it. I drove off and when I got home, I discovered they STILL had given me the wrong thing. I just let it go. I don't think they realize if they give someone something their body can't take, they could get sued.

I've got the wrong food before, but never anything that bad!!I had one guy hand me two of those giant cups that were full in one of those flimsy cardboard cup holders and as I was saying I dont need one of those, he pushed it towards me and one of the cups fell and spilled all over the inside and outside of the car! You didnt happen to save that cup did you? Maybe the person that took your order thought you were someone else and planned that to happen....If it was me, I'd have looked at the cup, took it there and demanded my money back, with the free breakffast.....if there was a hole in it and someone asked me a question like that, I would have got pretty upset.....hope you got the stickies cleaned up and hope your mom's recovering alright!!

Can you get a phone number to the corporate office? call the manager there and ask for that number, tell them what happened and maybe you can get some satisfaction that way.

I opened a bottle of soda once and it blew up....and I mean blew up. It sprayed all over me and the car! But it was my own fault as I had dropped it earlier and didn't wait long enough and was driving at the time so didn't open it slowly.

Gotta love days like that! I got a cup of Vanilla Ice Coffee from McDonald's and when I took a sip I was blessed with a nice trail of it down the front of my light blue dress. I was heading into a store to shop for one of my clients. Thankfully I had a sweater to wear over it and it covered it up nicely.

my sympathies to you. far too often I have pulled away or walked away just to have the order all wrong. I commend you for your patience. I know how hard it is. You pay good money and more than likely are in a hurry. More than likely it is kids working these fast food places. They don't mean to skrew up...it happens. My daughter works in a fast food plae and I do know from listening to her that she very much appreciates people like you that take things in stride even though quite umderstandably you have no reason to.

Oh yes, I've noticed that younger people seem to work there. And usually they are understaffed as well. I came about 15 minutes after they opened, so it wasn't busy. But I believe the manager was a college student, and I don't think he knew what to do after I got his attention. That may be why the general manager was also there. He was older (I assumed from talking to him on the phone) and I would prefer to think he was having a bad morning and that is why he wasn't polite. One thing that makes me sick is seeing someone berate a worker in front of their co-workers and other customers.

Wow i have to say nothing like taht happen to me begore, I guess thank got.But I hear one story about service in restaurant from my mother in law.She order a food and they bring her a plate. On the top of the plate was clip(like that one we use for open chips).I have no idea how that could come to her plate, but she just tell the manager and they gave her not only her meal for free but also her friends was free too.I think it was very nice of them and it should be like that all the time, when they make mistake. If they want to keep their customers , they should be profesional and if mistake is made, they need to apologize.

Hello AmbiePam, First, good luck to your mother on her tests today, I hope all is well. Yes I have had incidents at fast food places. I have gotten the wrong food, open drink containers, and snotty servers at the window. Needless to say I don't go through drive throughs very often. I would much rather having food at my own home. At least then I don't have to worry about leaks or spills, or whether or not I get the right food. Saves me a lot of stress. Happy posting..
