$800.00 for My Cats Operation today!

My 7 year old cat, has something embedded in her eyeball. The local vet sent her to the Animal Specialist. I spent one hour driving her there this morning. As soon as I got home, I received a phone call to say that the operation to remove it would cost $800.00, & that is discounted. The poor cat needs it removing or she will end up with an absess, infection & eventual blindness. Plus, she is in a lot of discomfort. She will retain 100% vision, although her eye ball will be scared for three months.

Im sorry to hear about your cat. Sometimes surgury for pets can be just as much as surgury for people. But if it benefits your cats vision, and he or she will make a full recovery, than the money is well worth it. Best of luck to you.

Yes, she will make a full recovery. She is a beautiful, affectionate cat & I would not let her suffer.

Jee Jenny, ohhhh, and I am so sorry for your poor kitty :/ And $800 is really a lot of money and I hope you could pay it? If not, maybe us, kitty lovers could spare each of us a few bucks and make it over to your paypal account? Wish you well and bless the kitty from me please TheFortunes

Thank you Jenny for the BR, and am glad that all was taken care off. Is your kitty ok now? Did you have her with the collar for a long time, and how is her eye now? Hope all is well ;) TheFortunes

That is a lot, but for specialist that isn't bad. My Aunts dachshund got something in his eye and was sent to a specialist. Just for the visit it was $200. By the time they removed the object (it was a very small piece of branch) without surgery, eye drops and 1 additional visit she had spent $2,000 (this doesn't include missed time from work or the gas money). We are going to get one of the pet credit cards where you can charge your visits and get at least 90 days same as cash just in case we get into a situation where we have to gt major care done and don't have the spare cash.

Gosh, I had no idea that an operation could cost that much money. But it´s well worth it. It must have been sad for you to see your cat go through so much pain. I hope the operation goes well and your lovely animal won´t suffer too much during recovery. Dana

Wow, that is a whopper of a bill to have to pay. Many people don't realize how much it costs to maintain a pet. Those that run out and get a pet need to sit down and calculate the monthly and long-term costs before they take that leap.

Exactly. Too many people buy a kitten or puppy, and as soon as something goes wrong, they dump it, or let it suffer. It ended up costing $1135.

WOW !!!! ..The price must have a massive shock.... I know that if I had to do it, I would...Although it would take a massive chunk out of the savings...My pets are like family and would be treated if they needed it..At least she will have a full recovery, thats great news..

YIKES! That's a lot of cash. So are you going to have this done or not then? Here in the States they sell health insurance for pets. I can't afford it and I don't think I could afford $800 for an operation for my Buster even though I love him dearly. Sometimes these things depress me thinking about not being able to afford a surgery for my Buster. Oh well. Take care. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's been done today. My hubby is there picking her up now. It ended up costing over $1000.00. They have this loan thing through a company for people who can not afford to pay. They were not very happy with me only paying $200.00 deposit today. They sometimes have this pet insurance thing here, but as our population is small, there aren't enough people to make it viable & keep it going. I have looked into pet insurance at times, but as it doesn't cover vaccinations or check ups, so it wasn't worth it.

That is a lot of money, but worth it for your pet. I would spend the money on my dog if I had to. I just took her in because she was vomiting, and having a hard time walking. The vet examined her, and couldn't say exactly what was wrong with her, but figured she got into something, or had some kind of flu. She got two medications and an injection. The whole trip cost 95 dollars. She's back to normal now. If I ever get another puppy, I'm thinking about getting pet insurance.

We havce had pet insurance here, but it works not to be finacially viable. Often these pet insurance companies collapse, as our population isn't big enough to support it.

I certainly can feel for you and your pet. When my dog was just 7 months old she broke both her front legs. After all was said and done it ended up costing me over $1200. However, to look at her now (5 years later) you'd never know. Sometimes it's just worth it!

Wow. Well you can think of it this way, she gives you lots of joy, right? Then she's well worth it. Although I do have to say, the doctors now a days charge more than they used to and are making money off of us poor people. That's ok, their time will come. Maybe not here on earth but it will come. In the meantime, lots of love for your baby girl. She's worth it. Bless you!

Ouch, that is quite a lot to spend on a pet. I know she is part of the family. I guess that will give your daughter someone to practice her pet care giving skills on when the cat comes home.

What country do you live in? Here in Canada when my spouse and I had to take one of our cats to the vet, we overheard a lady state that she's lucky to spend less than 1000CAD every time she visits the vet. We almost had to pay around 700 ourselves but because we were literally broke, we had an alternate method done for 200. This alternate method worked and our cat was better within a few days. To think that the vet could've had us with 500 extra debt with them. Either way we were willing to spend whatever amount to get our cat better. We're just glad the vet didn't rob us completely blind.

Jenny, Oh gosh. This is my first posting ever, and your's the first posting I have read too. Poor kitty. It must be so uncomfortable and painful as well. I hope that the surgery will take place right away an dheal quickly. You will be repaid with love and dear company for many years to come. Your kitty can be just like a real family member. My kitty is a part of my life, and those who have passed away have been such difficult times for me, and remembered always. I wish animal insurance/medical charges could be so much less. I know it isn't easy on the wallet, but I'd do anything for my kitties. Good luck!
