How often do you change your "shower" towel?

For us, our shower towel is changed 3-5 times a week. Not really bad I guess because there are only 2 of us in the house, hubby and I. However my mom-in-law changes her towel twice a day which means she has one towel for her morning shower another one at night. All in all she uses 14 towels in a week just for herself alone. Is there anyone here like my mom-in-law? What about you? How often do you change your shower towel? What is your basis of deciding when to change it? Do you wait til it looks really dirty before washing it?

Both my hubby and I have 5 to 6 towels respectively. After using once we usually throw the shower towel into a big plastic laundry basket ready for machine wash. During sunny season there definitely will be more towels in the laundry basket. We prefer those thinner towers as they easily to be dried. Normally I wash my hair in every other day. I use the thicker towel to wipe away the water on my hair.

we also use more towels on summer especially if we always go out swimming in the pool or lake.

We each have our own towels in our house. I wash them about twice a week. If you wash them too often they become stiff and then they are no longer desirable and you have to go out and buy some new puffy towels. I find the one I wrap my hair in starts to develop a smell to it after a 3-4 uses which tells me it is time to wash it. And that means all the towels because I usually wash them all at the same time.

You're right, washing anything frequently can make it either fade or stretch easily and for towels it will be no longer puffy.

It costs more money to wash the towels every time they are used but I think reusing the towels is gross. So I am always doing a lot of laundry. The kids and I each take a bath every day so we use 3 washcloths and 3 towels. That is a huge decrease from when my ex lived here a year ago. He would take 2-3 showers every day and use two towels each time. It was insanity. I have long hair and I only use one towel. I dry my body then wrap the towel around my hair to dry. Therefore I only have to use one towel. I dont hang them up to dry and use again ick.

I never use the same towel. We have several towels so we don't even need to use the same one more than once.

that's good to know. in our case, we have several towel too but hubby & I just don't find it very logical to just put it in the washer every after shower. What we did, we hang it in a rack in our bathroom and let it dry.

Back when I lived at home an my mom did the laundry I used two a day. One was for my hair and one for my body. If I took a second shower I used two more towels. Now that I have to do my own laundry I use one towel and use it for about three days. I dry it on a rack over the air vent so it dries quickly and I figure I'm clean when I use it so I don't worry too much.

well, you're getting wiser with it, huh! i know, it's really like that when we live already on our own, mom is not around anymore to do it.

Hi, MarieJ23. Your mother-in-law sure does use towels too much! I am nothing like your mother-in-law at all! We differ totally when it comes to changing the towels. I change my shower towel at least, twice a week, if possible. My towel does not get so dirty, so I don't have to change it everyday. I also, only change it when my towel gets dirty or when it happens to fall on the floor.
