the causes of acne are; hormones, diet, evolutionary biology, vitamin deficiency, stress, and im pretty sure that family genetics play a role. parents who suffered severe acne tend to have children that suffer severe acne. if you're a teenager than the growth related fluctuations in your hormones is the likely culprit of your acne. regularly washing your face morning and night, without fail, is a big part of helping to prevent acne. ultimatly acne is caused by bacteria that is trapped in the pores. so keeping your face clean and limiting how often you put your fingers on your face can make a difference. you've just worked out or spent time in the hot sun and been sweating-wash your face. try using a face wash that contains Benzoyl Peroxide (which kills bacteria) or salicyclic acid (which actually is supposed to slow down the shedding of cells inside the follicle that get clogged and grow bacteria) if you only occasionally get a breakout of acne then you should look for products that have a lower percentage of active ingredient (benzoyl or salicyclic) the lowest amount i think ive seen is 0.05%. or you can use a product like Stri-dex acne pads...that you use to swab over your face after you have washed it.

I am no expert but I think it comes from dirt and oils laying on the skin. Avon makes a great chemical peel that works wonders on acne I think. I've tried using toners but I think that brings the acne out even more. Also in teenagers, a lot of acne I think it caused by hormones. Women tend to get acne around their "time" of the month which contributes to the hormonal aspect of acne.
