Do you have a food storage area in your home? Do you buy extra and put it back or just buy and use as you need it? I try to buy extra and set it back but somehow we always end up using it. We live in an apartment so we don't have tons of room but we have some if I could just get on the ball and do it like I should. I've seen homes where they have huge pantry's in their basement or off their kitchen and they have them set up like the one in the picture. Do you need to start one? Where do you keep yours in your home? Are you good about putting things back or are you always getting into it? What's some of the most important things you keep in yours? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I have a closet size pantry in the kitchen and I stock up on things when they are on sale. Some of the things I stock up on are canned vegetables, tuna and salmon. I also get chips like Tostitos( a Mexican style corn chip ) when they are on sale.

I do have food stores as well as water. Here in the home where I live right now it is easier, as we have a full basement. One wall of one room there is lined with shelves which my grandma used to store her home canned foods. it is cool there and that room can be shut off and left unlighted, which lengthens storage time. We do use these in order to rotate them, so new items are puut in as older ones are removed. In my last home and when I lived in apartments I also had stores but had to be a bit more creative in finding room. I would store canned foods, paper products and water under furniture such as couches and such. I put some in the floors of closets and some under beds. I added an extra shelf in the tops of two closets to make room to ftore foods also. Basic items in my stores are bath tissue (yeah I know I can live without it but wouldn't want to lol), flour, sugar, salt, pepper, dried milk, dried fruit, dried vegetables, canned foods both from home canning and grocery, water, matches, candles, lighters, batteries, canned and dried meats, powdered chicken and beef stock, powdered eggs, etc. These are my world-comes-to-an-end stuff. I also store and rotate most of the groceies I buy, so there are canned soups, canned pastas, baking mix and such in smaller quantities there too. Because we have two cats and a dog we have four big plastic bins that hold around 50 pounds of dry food each. One for cats and one for dog are filled, then as they get low we fill the backup ones so the first can be washed and dried. We keep 30 gallons of water on hand. We bring up one or two to use for drinking, then replace them. We were forced onto city water a few year ago and it is absolutely horrid, so we have a filter pitcher, we keep 10-20 backup filters for it on hand. Anything purchased from the grocery which matches a stored item replaces the store immediately and the older ones are put on the kitchen shelves for use. Our powdered and dried foods are dated and replaced twice yearly, a few at a time.

We tend to stock up a decent amount of food at our house. We have a closet sized pantry in the dining room that I move stuff to when it's getting closer to it's expiration date. That's where I usually go for my day to day meals, unless I need more of something. Then I go down to my pantry in the basement. It's usually pretty full. Not to the extreme where we have stuff we won't ever use, though. But we do usually have a huge bag of rice, around a dozen flavored rice packets, some canned veggies, and beans, and lots of canned fruits. We also stock up on Hamburger Helper and those Home Style bakes for when I don't feel like cooking. I would estimate that right now, we have around 2 months worth of food in there, and I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow! When it gets really cold, I might have to cut back on the grocery budget to make room for the propane bill. It will be nice to know that I have plenty of food to last all winter. We have a large chest freezer that is full, too.

I am a hoarder when it comes to food! Whenever I go out shopping and I see bargains, like BOGOFs I stock up big time especially if there is a big saving to be had! I have the capacity space at home so I can easily stockpile stuff and most stuff doesn't go off (I make sure the dates are lengthy!) it saves a fortune in the long run and it stops me worrying about running out or a food shortage LOL!

We keep some extra things but we usually end up using it. We have a pantry and we have cabinets we keep food in. We also have a laundry room that has this big thing with five shelves and we put stuff on the shelves to save for later use to. We also buy paper towels and stuff like that when it's on sale and we leave it on the shelves to use later too.

We live in an apartment home too and don't have much pantry storage in our kitchen. We buy what we need when we need it. If we buy bulk then its stored in our dining area at the back LOL

Oh yes I sure do! I have to have extra's in certain things because we use a lot of it, what ever it may be, so I buy extra and store it so we won't run out. Mine consists of coffee, creamer, peanut butter, jelly, sugar, BBQ sauce just to name a few.

I do have some extra can goods and water stored in the basement. If a store runs a good sale on something, I do buy extra to put there.

I have a pantry in my kitchen where I put my dried goods, and any canned goods that are on sale. I also have a freezer where we put our meat and bread when it is on sale. I also put onions, and potatoes down in the basement. However, since we are now on a budget, we do not have a whole lot of money to afford to buy whole carcasses of beef or pork, nor can we go to sales and buy bushels of veggies and fruits. We also have only a small garden and so except for what we do have, we have no need of an extra large storage area.

I don't store food. I buy whatever I need when I think of using it. I think it's useless to store food that might get bad when there's a store across the street and I can buy anything I need whenever I need.

We have a walk-in pantry in our kitchen, and an extra refridgerator and freezers in our garage. We keep all sorts of extra drinks and frozen goods in the garage freezers and fridge, and lots of cereals and canned goods in our pantry. We normally don't get into it until what we have in the kitchen has run out. I mostly like the frozen fruits and things like that to make smoothies... and cereal bars. Oh, and pasta has always been a favorite of mine, but since I never have time to make it, we usually end up with a whole shelf full of it... But I'll have an occasional ice cream once and a while...

Yeah I have a little storage at home, but not such a big like on the picture. The most things what I have there are cans with vegetable, chips, cookies and some chocolates and candy bars. But that is really nothing against what my mom has.She has really huge food storage with all kind of home mad pickles and fruits and we just have all that for winter, when tehre is no so much fruits in the stores. Also it is great to have something special , when somebody come, who you didn't acept, so there is still something to put on the table and be hospitable to the visitors.

hi twoey, I have 2 freezers and a second set of cabinets that I keep as full as possible. I could live for about 2 months without having to go buy more. I have another closet that I keep toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, toothpaste and other sundries in. Yes I do buy a lot on sale. I have grandchildren every other weekend and we go through lots of cereal and milk with them. One cabinet is full of vegetables and canned meats, one is full of condiments, one full of canned fruit that I put up myself. I can salsa, pickled peppers, pickled asparagus and pickled beets, along with jams and jellies that I make from my fruit trees. Yes I think I'm stocked up enough for a while. Happy posting..
