I think we've all thought something was really cute or a great idea and then found that it was just a waste of money. I think that most baby towels are a waste of money. I bought a boppy pillow and couldn't get it to work for me just the way I needed it.

Oh my goodness, where to start..there are so many things that are a waste of money...You definantly learn from the first one the amount of junk that you just simply do not need....

baby - A picture of a baby that I used to take care of every day for few hours
How long does this post need to be???? I can think of about 1 million things. Many clothes to start with. I will see something cute and go buy it only to have him wear it few times. Toys again the same thing go buy it only to realise he is too young for it and put it away for later. Or to have a loud noise and he was scared. The bigest waste of money would be his crib he was born overseas and we got back when he was 7 months I told my mother not to buy him a crib as it would be a waste of money as he slept with me but she went and got it. because he had health issues he mailny slept with me and my husband so my son slept in his crib probably less than 100 nights.

I'm bad about the clothes. I am better now with my second. But my first had so many clothes that she would never wear. I bought her a really dressy purple dress for 0-3 months. Planned on getting pictures done in it. Never did. I even kept it for my second daughter. Never wore it again. lol I'm going to sell it.

One of the things that I thought was a big waste was the changing table. We didn't buy it, because I didn't think it would be worth it. Someone gave us one, though, so we went ahead and set it up. I could probably count the number of times I actually used it on one hand. Otherwise it was just another thing to sweep around and to keep Elliott out of. The floor was just a much easier place to change him in my opinion. The diaper genie was another thing that someone gave us that we never even used. It seemed wasteful and small and pretty pointless to me. We also buy way too many clothes. My son wasn't in size 3-6 months for very long at all. I think when I was packing up that size, I came across around a dozen things that still had price tags on them.

I bought a mocrowavable sterilizer but I did not use it because I have to sterilize plenty of bottles and it won't fit into it. It was really a wast of money, I'm just thinking I will give it as a present to one of my friends when they will have a baby.

I will never forget! My husband and I just had to have the carseat/stroller combo. It was a royal pain to put together. We had to call and order missing parts. It was hard to get on and harder to get off. I pinched my fingers in it so many times that within a month they were being used only as separates..Hehe..If we ever have another we will not do that again..This is a funny thread..Things we just think we HAVE to HAVE turn out to be dust collectors..

I agree with you. The travel systems have gotten better. But the first one I got was horrible. The stroller wouldn't move straight. And of course unless you have the box and the receipt you can't take it back. I had the receipt, but no box...I didn't want to keep a huge box like that. We got another one with my daughter. Hardly used it together. We finally sold the stroller. We kept a smaller stroller and the car seat if we have another child. We'll do separate next time too.

I had got some cloth nappies as gifts and they were really good. So, I went out and got a whole load of cloth nappies in different sizes (to last a year!)Well, turns out the ones I bought were cute but had smaller velcro strips and didn't stay well!!!!What a waste!

I bought my daughter a boppy pillow and it's back in the closet and she used it very little, she couldn't get comfortable with it and the baby too. But I have heard from other mothers that it is the most comfortable thing they've had. As for my own babies it was years ago and things are different now. But I can speak for my daughter and step daughter's experiences. They got a lot of things as gifts that they thought they just had to have and don't use them at all. Like the harness/sling, my daughter sent it back to the store. She said it was terrible, but she has friends who swear by them.

I had a diaper genie and hated it! It took me so long to figure out how to get the diaper in the contraption, and of course, they never staye twisted when we emptied it. With all the plastic bags we brought home from the grocery store, it was just easier to tie the offending diaper in that and throw it in the garbage. :)

I'm really not into gadgets & gizmos. I can't think of things I bought myself that proved to be a waste. But I was given a diaper genie when I had my son & I was just repulsed by the idea of it. If you're not familiar with them, they're a specialized waste basket that puts each disposable diaper into it's own bag. My friends & family know I am pretty crunchy, I use cloth diapers & I try to keep all of my family's waste to a minimum. It just baffled me that some people think a diaper needs more packaging before it goes off to the landfill to sit for a 100 years or more.

It probably was toys. Anytime we go out and see a cute little stuffed animal or toy that was reasonably priced, we would pick it up. My husband still has that problem, I believe I have curbed it..:)

I bought a lot of things that were a waste. Probably the major one was the Diaper Genie. I haven't seen them around lately but I had one and could not figure out for the life of me how that thing worked. The other was a wipe warmer. first of all, it took a long time to warm up, but if you left it on the wipes would dry out and burn.

I agree with you on that one. We had a diaper genie with my first. I hardly ever used it. Never had a wipe warmer, but I've heard people complain about the wipes drying out.

The worst thing i bought for our daughter was a bassinette, it looked so pretty in the shop and what i dreamed of my baby being put down to sleep in, but she hated it, so it went into storage until our son was born, once again he didnt like it, he prefered to sleep in his pram, and our bed. So before our third child was born we gave away the idea of using a bassinette and relied on his pram and cot for sleepping.

I bought a pillow which had hearts attached to it with i love you written on them. By looks it was just beautiful but when it came to its use it did not offer the comfort the child needs but still felt happy with it when my daugher would specially keep it on her bed as a show piece. That smile on her face when she saw the pillow actually paid its price even without its utility.

well, i agree to your view. we know it is a waste . but you know due to curiosity and love and affection of our baby , we some times buy so many things ., which we could have avoided . but on later date we find the same as waste., . you cannot avoid the same ., because those things are bought by us with pure love and not just like that . we cannot count those expenses

Yea, I heard that the diaper genie and wipe warmer are a waste of money too, so we didn't buy those. I also agree with the bassinette, my daughter outgrow it when she reaches 3 months old. With my son, he just sleep in his crib without the hassle from the transition from bassinette to crib. We also had too many clothes too. Some only wore a few times, some were never wear but already outgrew them.

I am really very careful most times because i know buying for babies is one potential area where nothing is too much and also has a lot of scope of wasting money. Till date I have wasted money on 2 things. A potty seat, which my daughter didn't use even once and an expensive baby lotion which is no good. She has many toys and doesn't play with them all the time but I wouldn't call it a waste of money.

I think the only thing I have gotten so far that was a waste was too much clothing. My son is now 9 months old and I already have two huge bins of clothes that no longer fit. Some things he has never even worn. Everything else I have bought has been worth it.
