Oh the wonders of working retail...

Ok so I am in retail and I actually really like it for the most part. But I find some guests (customers are called that at target) can be very inconsiderate. Like for example, leaving a stack of food in the jewelry section or tossing clothes you just tried on somewhere when you could have just given them to the fitting room operator. I can always tell when someone either works or has worked retail because they have a certain appreciation for the work we do. When they take something off of a rack, they will simply put it back where they got it. When something falls on the floor.... they pick it up. I have thanked numerous people who I have seen do this because I feel it is so nice of them. Anyone had some interesting experiences or problems like this working in retail? I am scared of the upcoming holiday season, back to school was really bad and I know that was nothing compared to xmas.... any advice for some sanity???

I worked in a grocery department, and it was just as bad. People would leave meat and frozen items all over the store. There is nothing worse than finding meat that has been dropped in behind some cans and has sat there for a day or two. I too, appreciated it when people would return the items to where they went or dropped them off to the cashier as they left. I think some people are in such a hurry, they don't think, or they are just plain lazy!

Oh yeah, we luckily don't have frozen meats but we do have frozen products and coolers which of course we find laying in children's clothing or something ridiculous like that. Here's a good one for that... the other night we found decorative bhudda statues in cereal... Maybe they wanted their food to be blessed?

Hi tifluvnick, I worked retail for a short time, and I have to agree with you. A lot of people are very inconsiderate, but others are excellent. Like you, I always made a point of thanking those who made a special effort to be helpful. Blessings.

Thanks for the understanding comment, it's nice to know others know how I feel when I get really frustrated.
