I made a comment about the Iran contra affair to a co worker the other day and she said huh? I tried to sum it up but it was over her head and she said oh If it didn't happen here then I don't pay attention. Wow I thought to myself if we don't pay attention to the world around us there won't be one for long. I think it is our responsibility to future generations to stand up for the wrongs in the world and to make sure that we don't explode the only earth we have. Global warming, earthquakes, typhoons. We need to pull together as one and fix the problems. I am straying off topic now but it bothers me that someone can be so oblivious to the world around them. Is it just me or do you pay attention to news that happens outside of your home town?

To me what ever happening now through out the world is a good lesson for me to be more alert on negative traits and take positive traits as my life learning lesson to be practiced. Without that kind of events sometime will make me passive to have good things in my life.

I agree it is a good lesson to us so we don't get too passive in our lives. I think it makes us more grateful for what we have.

Yes the enviroment sure takes a beating. Our forests and wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate. Thank you for caring about the world we live in.

I used to be that way. I work 10-6 and that misses the 6o'clock news. I don't usually read the newspaper, so I depend on hubby to tell me anything exciting. I now like to read the online news and several news magazines to stay informed. It is much more interesting that way. People do tend to stay focused on just their little world...it's a pretty common thing to do. As an example, I remember about a year ago talking to someone at work about partial birth abortion, and they didn't even know what it was and how insidious it was...they just lumped it in with "abortion". How long has that been going on? Lately, I've been paying more attention to world news than in my own city. LOL

Hi whywiki, It's a sad state of affairs, but there are many people out there like your co-worker, I meet dozens of them every week. You are very right in saying that unless people wake up to what's happening in the world, we soon will not have one. The world is full of people who have no interest in anything outside of their family and friends, and those about whom they can gossip. You will find the world a lonely place sometimes. Blessings.

It is sad and just a little bit scary. I am glad I am not that shallow.

That has to depend what kind of news. I love reading, but I hate reading newspaper. Totally not interested. I love watching TV, but again, do not like watching news. LOL.

I used to pay far more attention than I do now. It's difficult to stay on top of things here in China, as the news is sanatized, and so many websites are blocked. People are always emailing me and asking me about something or other that's happening here that they've seen on the news back home, which isn't broadcast at all here.

I do pay attention as a matter of fact I am a bit concerned about those miners. I wonder what can be done to prevent these cave in that are happening so regularly?
