Fire In My Yard

Well seems I was deserving of a little excitement and maybe my 30 seconds of fame as well just about 30 minutes ago. I've attached a photo and will add more as well. I went outside for a smoke break whgen I saw it. A power line had fallen in my front yard. Maybe 25 feet from my door & deck. It was arching and humming like crazy. The flame was a blinding orange. I couldn't stare at it for long. My yard is now with a long snake like burn about 50 feet long or so as well. Guess I'll need to get some seed & black top soil this weekend to reseed the area. All's fine now. The powers back on. The feeder line is going to be replaced shortly. The ground from this live wire is so hot that as my sprinkler is watering it to cool it down it is literally boiling. It even boiled up a large rock that was buried. I was also interviewed by a Local Cable News Network. So tonight I'll have my time as being famous. HAHAHA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Someone must be jealous, hehe. Actually I think it must have been a glitch. MarcieScott and ElusiveButterfly both had innocent discussions deleted too.

That's a really neat picture actually. It's always kinda fun when you get those crazy kodak moments. My mom got photos of our pool many many years ago when it was struck by lightning and split down the center with water gushing out. We had to buy a new pool. My mom was not interviewed for that though....enjoy your small fame.

Flaming Wire - The end of the arching wire today. 10-03-2007
Well here's a photo of kust the flaming area at the end of the wire dangling. It was a scary moment for a few minutes. It's been awhile now and the ground is still boiling, it's that hot. I've got the water flowing on it to cool it down. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, Thankfully, no one was hurt in this, and no serious damage to your property. What caused the wire to come down? I'm sure you were shocked (no pun intended), to say the least, when you discovered this. I hope you get to see yourself on cable t.v. Great photography as always.:)

Ooooh! Ahhhh! - Hahaha! Kinda like a fireowrk display
Remember awhile back my discussion about seeing lightening hitting the pole near my house? Well the electrical company feels this wire that fell today had been weakened by that past event. It was an old wire. They guessed it to be about 25 years or older. So it definitely lived it's life out they said. Thanks also for the comment. I take a lot of time trying to get the right shots for my discussions. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I do remember that discussion. Who'd have thought that it'd cause something like this? Thanks for the 'fireworks' photo. I've rated it, and commented, as well. You do a great job at getting the right photos. Your time, and effort, really pays off.:)

You have been one busy bee haven't you Grandpa Bob? Unbelievable that that happened right there in your front yard! The picture was very cool, but I am glad you weren't walking in the yard at the time that happened. Wow.

Oh my goodness. I'm so glad that wasn't on your house or anything. That's a neat looking picture though. Can the city you live in fix the grass for you by reseeding it? I know the city where I live had some trees cut and the tree cutting service's truck leaked hydrolic fluid on my grass and it made my grass die so they contacted the tree service people for me and they came out and dug it up and reseeded it for me.
