Glass from the fire in my yard earlier

Glass - This was the resulty of the electrical wire that burned on my lawn. It turned the dirt into glass. Looks like a face doesn't it?

As most of you know glass is made from sand and othyer ingerdients as well. I had an electrical wire fall in my yard this afternoon causing the grass & ground to be burnt severely. Now this wire/fire was so hot that it literally turned my yard into glass of different shapes, sizes, and colors. This was a surprise to me as well. But it is beautiful. I am saving a couple pieces for both my grandsons for a show & tell in the future. The neighbor lady took a chunk also for her daughter for show & tell as well. The city Fire Department is having an Open House this weekend and they asked me to bring some to the station today after it cooled so they could use it as a display showing just how hot the ground becomes. So it turned out to be a great thing this fire as many people are benefitting somewhat from it. Now this chunk & photo looks awesome I feel. tell me it looks like a face with a very prominent nose? I think it does. This piece is about the size of a full grown mans hand. I have many potos to add to responses. Thanks and please click the photos and add a comment as it helps me knowing members appreciate this aspect of my posts. I put a lot into taking and adding photos for mere pennies if that. Thanks in advance. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That is SO awesome...makes me wish something like that would happen here! I have heard of driving metal stakes into sand to attract lightning. Then after a storm there are these abstract glass sculptures under the stakes that were hit. I've never tried it but I keep thinking I will some day.

Green Glass - Green glass formed from the downed wire today. 10-04-2007
Thats just what happened here due to the heat of the arching wire. pretty awesome to see. It wasn't so much a flame. More of a huge blinding sparkling. Here's another piece of glass. This one is small about an inch around. Kind of green colored. All sorts of shapes and sizes formed from this. Pretty awesome I think. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Its a nice result from the fire grand pa bob, and Im thank ful that no one got hurt from that incident. I have not seen a piece of art this lovely. I heard about the sand burning thing to make a glass and this is such an awesome site to see. The colors of that piece are real and the red thing that is shaped like of a man's face. Surely there could be explanations why that happened and the mystery behind this glass piece from a fire. Its the process of sand burning. Thank you for sharing grand pa bob and have a nice day!

More red glass - This is pretty as well. Looks like a mini volcano I think
Thanks for the compliment also. Now I want to find out how to preserve this one "face" piece of glass for future look etc. I think it would make a great paper weight or something along those lines. This attatched photo looks like a mini volcano I think. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That's pretty cool. I'm glad no one got hurt by it! I didn't know that the wires would get THAT hot. Thanks for that, Bob. I learned something new today. :)

Cool Glass Chunk - Another piece caused by the wire on my lawn arching hotly.
I didn't think they'd boil the dirt being this hot. I knew they got hot but this was awesome to see the ground actually boiling. Guess they're right when they say stay away from wires huh? Here's another cool looking piece of glass caused by the downed wire. This piece is about 6 inches in diameter. It was about 4 feet long also. This chunk is about 18 inches long I'd guess. That photo is pretty crazy! I did see the face and the nose. Wow! I can't believe the ground got that hot, but it amazes me. I think it is awesome that everyone gets to benefit from this unfortunate experience, the fire department can use that as a display and that will be really cool for your grandkids to show at school.

A neighbors daughter came by at 8 that night. She is a college student majoring in geology. So she has a term paper due soon and decided to change her theme and go with electrical charges turning soil into glass. She took the face piece as well as a few others. So it's been an educational accident for quite a few people. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
