Hello there. I am a regular donor when it comes to donating blood. I donate my blood 2-3 times a year. I first donated my blood when i was 17 years old. How about you? Any interesting blood donation experience to share?

Hello there. I just donated 1 month plus ago. So i need to wait for another 2 months before I can donate again. I've also donated for 8 times so far. Usually i donate blood in the mobile blood donation drive or the blood bank at outram. How about you?

I never have because the only times I've weighed enough were during pregnancy. Eleven months later I'm still a little above the weight limit but still haven't donated beause this baby is nursing and I can't leave him at home for long enough to donate. I'm A+ so it's not as though I have a rare blood type...if I did I'd make sure I could donate though.

Wow. You must be very light. The minimum weight to donate blood in my country is 45kg. Regardless of blood type, I think we should all try to donate if we can. Most blood banks in the world are facing shortage problems.

I think the minimum is 110 or 115 pounds...normally I'm closer to 105. Right now I'm just barely 115. You are right abot the shortages and i agree with you that anyone who can donate should...I just know that the process takes more time than I have to give right now.Maybe if I don't lose any weight once the baby is weaned I can donate then.

i donate 2 times a year.its mandatory.i haVE BEEN DONATING FROM 5 YEARS.and i don't have any problem.once when i donated blood.it went to save a new born baby.the parents came in and thanked me for my timely help.i just fell in love after seeing that baby and made donating a regular habit.

i have made it mandatory as i feel its every bodys duty to save others.its for a noble cause.there are so many people who need blood daily and our contribution is very minimal.people have to understand this duty.it also help us to rejuvinate.and it is replaceable on our body.thats why i used the term mandatory.as i feel its my duty to country.

You are a very kind person. I am just wondering why is blood donation mandatory? Shouldn't it be voluntary? I donate 2-3 times a year. I've never seen the people who receive my blood people. It must have been a very touching moment for you to see the baby. God bless you. =D

I've donated 8 times in total. It should be much more than 8 for me but I've been rejected a few times for low iron count. Girls sometimes have that problem. It's very kind of you to donate blood every year. Keep it up. =D

I donated blood only once , it was two years ago in a blood donation camp organised by the Red Cross society in my college campus, we donated around 300ml of blood each. It was a unique experience for me as we were lying two on one bed during the donation , as their were not adequate infrastructure available as large no of donors turned up which was unexpected at that time of the year in the winter, but it was a thrilling experience after donating blood for the fast time and I really want to donate more blood

Hello there. My first donation also happened in my school campus. We had a blood donation drive by red cross too. Nowadays, I donate blood in the Blood Bank. My country has a few blood donation drives around the nation. They are usually situated in the hospitals. If you want to donate again, maybe you can try to ask the Red Cross Society or your local hospitals. I am sure they will be very willing to help you. Thanks for responding. =D

ya I have done it only two times. The first time experience was a nice one. I had an exam afternoon. And one man came to my room in the moring and asked for blood. I went with him. I was a little tired after donating. It was about time to start the exam. I didnt get any time to rest. I ran.. appeared the exam.. And when I returned my room I was not tired..

Good to hear that you have a good experience. My first experience was smooth sailing too. We had a blood donation drive in my college. Many of my school mates responded. However, only 2 students (including myself) in my class responded. The rest of my classmates were afraid of blood and needles.

We're just as the same, poohgal. I started donating blood since my first year in college, I do it every sunday. We used to have an ROTC here held every sundays, I don't like participating and basking in the sun that much. So as an excuse, I offer my help and donate my blood in return to not participate on that darn ROTC excercise!;)LoL

I have donated blood three times in my entire life so far. All these three occasions were when I was between 18 and 20 years of age, so that was some time ago. I have not donated since, but if there is an urgent need for blood I do not mind donating again as long as I am healthy and I qualify to donate.

Good to hear that you are healthy and eligible for donation. The blood bank is always in need of blood and there's always some people who will be in urgent need of blood. That is why I make it a point to donate once every 3 or 4 months. Maybe you can do the same too if you have time. Thanks for responding. God bless you. =D

I have also donated blood since I was 17. The only really interesting blood donation story I have is that I donated blood on 9/11 and the town I lived in put my picture in the newspaper.

Hello poohgal. You're lucky. I've never known the joys of donating blood to help another person's life. Not even one member of my family is qualified to donate blood. I often have allergic rhinitis, my sister is underweight, my mom is overweight, my brother has tatoos. We tried but we were rejected to donate blood. I wish someday I could as my little daughter was given blood before that helped in extending her life. I really wish with all my heart that I could do what you do.

Hello there. Is it because you have low iron count? If that's the case, you can try to eat more iron rich food like red meats and raisins. Don't feel bad about not donating. Your health is more important. God bless. =D

Maybe it's time for you to donate another time. =D I remembered i was scared during my first time too. The nurse looked inexperienced and I was afraid of needles. However, thank God the nurse is experienced. The whole process was smooth sailing. The thought of being able to use our blood to help another living being is really beautiful and wonderful. God bless you.

I donated blood within 12 hours of having my 3rd child...He was born preemie and would need a transfusion within 72 hrs if he lived that long so me being the mum was the natural/most logical choice.....I donated for him a second time about 2 months later...I've never donated since and hadnt before then and unless it was for one of my kids I probably wouldnt again.....Actually I dont think I COULD at this point becuase of the medications I take..

Hi poohgal, Iam not a regular donor. But I have donated blood few times. I have donated blood twice in a camp , two times for my friends son and one my friends mother needs after operation.Every yime when I donated blood i feel quite good but last time when I have donated blood for my friends mother, Iam little bit uncomfortable and almost becomes unconcious for a second after 15 mins of donation. I think it may be because I have donated blood on 5th floor and after sometime I come to ground floor by stairs for some refreshment, due to which i became tired and had this problem. otherwise Iam always comfortable.

It's very kind of you to donate blood to your friends' son and mother. It's important not to over-exert yourself immediately after blood donation. It's good to take a 10min rest right after the donation. Thanks for donating and God bless you.

I have tried to donate blood 2 times. Both times they wouldn't take my blood. The first time was when I was 18. They always check certain things before they will take your blood. I had a high temperture when they checked. Weird, because I didn't feel sick. The second time was a couple years ago when I was 44. My iron count was down, so again they would not take my blood.

It's true. They always check my temperature, blood pressure, iron count before I am allowed to donate my blood. I also have to filled up a lifestyle and health questionnaire. Anyway, do take care of your health. Try to eat more iron rich food like beef. It'll help. =D
